"AbsolutePunk: 'Junior Year' Video Premiere"

"AbsolutePunk Reviews Case Closed's "Basements" EP, Gives 80% Score!"

Case Closed are a doe-eyed quartet from Glassboro, NJ. To date the band has shared the stage with the likes of The Ready Set, 2 AM Club and The Early November. Their 2011 debut Clouds was produced by Jesse Cannon (Saves the Day, Say Anything, et al). The group cites influences including but not limited to Manchester Orchestra, Taking Back Sunday and The Early November.

As for the EP as a whole, well, here's one for the little guy. The hard-charging, heart-on-sleeve single "Junior Year" is a fine introduction to these wistful dreamers. The group anchors themselves in vocalist Curtis Beebe's emotive timbre, but Beebe is helped by a solid rhythm section and a sturdy lead guitar. The quartet sounds most confident on the propulsive "Going Nowhere," the pleading and emphatic "The Station" and the rattling "One Thing We All Agree On." Beebe is not one for subtlety or restraint and nowhere is that more vibrant than on the leave-it-all-on-the-table grit of "A Fond Memory."

Even on the less inspired efforts ("Close to Me", "It's Worse Than You Think") there's still a sense of polish and confidence at work here that belies their relative inexperience. Even with all the accolades, there still leaves a few questions. For starters, could the band have employed a ballad or two to prove there's more to the band than just hard-charging rock? Yes, probably. Does the band wear its influences too much on its sleeve? Yeah, probably. And lastly, are Case Closed going to set the world afire? No, probably not. But there is something potent and promising at work here and if this is just the starting off point, one can certainly see a golden future ahead for these four.

Over a decade ago, a South Jersey quartet made a name for themselves by setting themselves apart from the pack. While the Basements EP is not quite the same caliber as The Early November, there's still that very same South Jersey ethic that has the band pining for their chance at fame. And with an EP like this, there's ample reason to think they're one or two releases away from that very opportunity. They may be young, but there's something worth remembering about Case Closed.

"Case Closed - Junior Year [New Music]"

Remember how many bands followed Green Day into rock-opera land? The trend simmered until My Chemical Romance’s Black Parade LP fired the band into the stratosphere, but suddenly “concept album” got thrown around by every young band whose producer suggested they tackle a “theme” or “write in character.” Glockenspiels, harps, woodwinds and brass came out in force, slathered on to tracks that should’ve been left alone, and passionate dudes and dudettes searching for their voice decided “soaring” meant “sophisticated.”

Case Closed sounds like the result of that scene, studied by a couple of guys who absored the parts that worked for them and were smart enough to rip off all the frills. The result is a uniquely bouncy blend of hard-driving pop and crookedly theatrical vocal hooks that they’ve been serving up since 2010.

On their first EP, Clouds, producer Jesse Cannon’s work with Saves the Day and Say Anything helps bolster the wordy verses and occasionally jazzy chords. The band doesn’t hesitate to layer “do-do-dos” and “bah-bah-bahs” on top of acoustic guitars…

…any more than they do showtune melodies on top of thundering toms and rip-roaring distortion.

Their first single of 2013, “Junior Year,” tacks a little further south with its ol’ boy riff, but doesn’t hesitate to explode into a massive chorus at the first opportunity.

Follow the dudes on Facebook or Twitter for all the latest and keep an eye out for their full follow-up EP, Basements, this spring.

"Case Closed - "Junior Year" [Free Download]"

The Skinny: "Junior Year" is the latest track from indie rock band Case Closed and we have it here for free download. Four very close high school friends formed Case Closed in May of 2010 and the band quickly got down to rehearsing and demoing a lot over their first few months. Buzz quickly began to build around their distinctive indie-pop sound and in turn by Fall of 2010 they got some local radio play which fueled the release of their three song EP This is Bad. That was Terrible. The EP saw its release in November 2010 and became a local success which created a buzz for a full-length album.

Case Closed's debut record Clouds was released in April 2011, including the single "Breathe Slow." The band's influences include Manchester Orchestra, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, The Early November and Saves The Day. Right now the band is in the studio finishing their follow-up EP release called Basements which is due for release this Spring. - Pure Grain Audio

Jersey boys Case Closed are back on the indie-pop scene and prepping to release their new EP Basements, expected early this Spring. The guys have been working round-the-clock in the studio with Jersey pop-punk legend, Jesse Cannon (Saves The Day, Say Anything), who also produced their debut album Clouds in early 2011.

After almost 2 years of touring and writing, Case Closed reminisced on their early high school days as a band to draw inspiration for ‘Junior Year,’ the first single from the new EP. With rock influences including Manchester Orchestra, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, and The Early November, Case Closed looks to pave the way for a new hybrid of indie-rock and pop-punk, and it all starts in ‘Junior Year.’ - AltSounds

Bio

Four high school best friends formed Case Closed in May of 2010. Curt Beebe – Vocals/Guitar | Dave Schoettler - Guitar/Vocals | Dan Huesser - Bass | Phil Fasulo - Drums. After a few short months of recording, and demoing new material, buzz began to build around their distinctive indie-pop sound. In the fall of 2010, the band was featured on “Radio104.5’s Live at 5.” The feature helped to create more buzz, and raised the demand for their 3-song E.P. that would soon follow. The E.P., titled “This is Bad. That was Terrible,” was recorded with friend/mentor Nik Bruzzesse of Man Overboard (Rise Records), and was released November of 2010. The E.P. was a success among their new fans, and helped to create even more demand for the release of their upcoming debut album.

Case Closed released their debut album entitled “Clouds” produced by Jesse Cannon (Cannon Found Soundation) in April of 2011. Their debut single, “Breathe Slow,” was received very well through Jango Internet radio. Additionally, their second single, “A Tribute to a Man and His Orange Juice,” caught the attention of numerous radio promotional professionals, one being Bill Jerome of Jerome Promotions who stated “It’s just a great song.” The band’s influences include Manchester Orchestra, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, The Early November, Saves The Day, and “pretty much everything else.” Plans are underway for a follow-up EP release entitled “Basements” to be distributed through Universal’s UMGD via Black Ink MMG/Bungalo Records early this Spring.
