Bio

With limitless energy and spontaneity, The Singularity Tour kicks off in the Summer of 2012, putting Casey Driessen's unique creative vision center stage. The set up is simple: One man. One fiddle. One pedal board. Mixing his signature percussive fiddle style with digital loops and effects, the GRAMMY-nominated fiddler will build each show layer by layer in real time in front of the audience. The result is a one of a kind experience that pushes the boundaries of musical genres and styles.

Casey Driessen is—like his music—inspired, unconventional and truly original. An early diet of Bluegrass, Jazz, and Western Swing grounded him with a respect for tradition while Berklee College of Music burst open the door to technology, music from around the globe, and introduced him to The Funk. This diversity has created a distinct and soulful approach to the fiddle and led to collaborations with artists such as Béla Fleck (& the Flecktones), Bassekou Kouyate, Jerry Douglas, Tim O'Brien, Darrell Scott, Steve Earle, & Zac Brown Band.

Casey's style of funky fiddle rhythm is quickly earning him the reputation as the leader of "The Chop," a new percussive bow technique permeating every corner of the fiddle/violin world. A choptastic interpretation of Jerusalem Ridge on his debut record, 3D, earned him a GRAMMY nomination and was hailed a "tour de force" (New York Times). Driessen's "monster chops and imagination to match" (Downbeat) bring an electric energy to his live performances and solo recordings where this worldly instrumentalist and composer is able to show off a little, not merely as a fast and inventive fiddler, but as a visionary who translates his passion for tradition and improvisation into important new American music.

As an extension of his fascination with the percussive possibilities of the fiddle, Casey has created Fiddle/Sticks: The Drummer Project—a collaborative exploration of rhythm which pairs him with landmark drummers and percussionists of our time. Cutting across all genres and traditions, the project documents these rhythmic explorations through recordings, videos, photos and journals. It serves as an inspirational and instructional resource for drummers, percussionists, fiddlers and everyone in the music community interested in challenging the roles of their instruments and their music.

And although you can't hear them (or can you?), you know he's wearing red shoes.
