To Whom it May Concern:

While I am still fresh from the production of my latest album, Texas Tonight, I wanted to take a few moments to comment on my experience at the recording studio at Little ‘d’ Art Ranch and resident engineer, Casey Hubble.

The studio is located in a beautiful setting in the Texas Hill country a few miles west of Fredericksburg. As a professional recording studio, it has only been in operation for a couple of years but has served as a creative location for a number of prominent Texas songwriters and musicians including Walt Wilkins, Mike Blakely, John Arthur Martinez, Jeff Posey, Noel McKay, and others. As a result of the joyous recording sessions, the camaraderie, and the ultimate creation of some of the finest music in the land, the energy and comfort level in this building is palpable and gratifying.

Studio owners Pat and Derenda Keating are the perfect hosts to the songwriters and musicians who arrive here, and I use the word “host” in the classical sense. A visitor who arrives at the Little ‘d’ Art Ranch and recording studio is treated as a special guest almost a family member, and the experience is unlike any studio I’ve ever encountered before. One is welcomed warmly and made to feel at home. The atmosphere, the pace, and the approach to music and recording are relaxed, encouraging, and satisfying.

Casey Hubble, resident recording engineer is also a songwriter, musician, and performer and he brings theses talents and attitudes into the control room. His approach to recording is to work closely with the artist in creating the best sound possible. He listens to the ideas and notions provided by the artist and incorporates them into the production. His skills on the console, as well as his keen ear, yield an impressive product. During my time in the recording studio, Hubble’s suggestions and input were so helpful and on-target that we decided to make him an assistant producer.

I am already looking forward to my next recording project at Little ‘d’ Art Ranch and working with Hubble.

"Bipolar Six-String Review"

In the interest of time, I started listening to this disc on the road.
Without the album packaging in hand, I got only the auditory experience
at first. About halfway through this album for the first time, a
thought entered my mind. I was thinking how wonderful it was that Hayes
Carll had written some new songs, and that Casey Hubble was doing a
great job of performing them. I mean, who else can write like that?
Those images, and that inflected emotion just yelled of Carll. A track
or two later, there was a song that sounded nothing like Carll, but
still had some elements of the previous tunes. I began to wonder.
After some research, I learned that Casey Hubble wrote every track.
Holy smokes! It really takes an old soul and a truly connected artist
to write like that. So, I began the CD again at the beginning with the
knowledge that Hubble was the sole composer, and I gained a new
appreciation for his talent. Hubble’s theme song, “Austin Kind Of
Night” is just that, an anthem that speaks to the life of living and
performing in Austin. This has become one of Hubble’s most popular
tunes with the public and I’m sure it will serve him well for many
years. You’ll hear the aforementioned Carll-ness on “Hubbleberry
Finn,” and the next two tracks as well, but then comes “Angel Hair
Spaghetti” and you get a serious left turn in Hubble’s writing,
which continues through “Heartbreak Slideshow” which is the truly
sad cut of the disc. Hubble takes another turn with his songwriting
with “Starting To Fly” that shows his ability to write within
formula and retain his artistic integrity. Hubble shows he can hang
with the likes of Michael Hearne and Bob Livingston with “Parsons”
which is the only totally solo acoustic track, but is filled with so
much emotion, other instruments might spoil it. When listening to
“The Maid,” I finally realized that nobody is writing this way
except Hubble. No one is doing this kind of stuff except Hubble, and he
is presenting it in an amazing way. This song alone will influence
other songwriters to get out of their comfort zones and blaze new
trails. Of course then, Hubble wraps up the album with “The Way You
Were Raised.” My immediate thoughts were simple and clear; this song
needs to be recorded by Hayes Carll. - MyTexasMusic.com

"On The Road"

"I am absolutely entranced with the new and first Casey Hubble cd. He was the THMF scholarship winner a few years ago, has graduated from The University of Texas, and showed up at Luckenbach when we were watching Stephanie. As he handed me his cd, he also invied me to a performance in Kerrville that night. I missed the performance, but wore the cd out! In line with my love interesting lyrics and unusual voices (Leonard Cohen and Dylan), I heard 'You Make Me Better,' with sensitive ears. This does not sound like any other debut cd I've heard, does not sound like 'the boys' of Texas, but does contain rhythms that move you, words that intrigue, and songs to remember. Caseyhubblemusic.com contains both the lyrics and background stories. This is one I keep in my player on all road trips. He makes ME better!"

Casey Hubble: Texas-based songwriter tinkering with the art of telling true stories, tall tales, and outright lies.

I have learned to sit in the corner and take notes from the old men who usually know what they're talking about. The songwriters, the poets, the pickers...even the truckers and moonshine-runners. My mentors are those who have boiled down a craft into a philosophy and lifestyle. I humbly, and un-brazenly, steal tricks off these guys but inevitably, a young man shines through my songs which is why people are attracted to my act.

"It really takes an old soul and a truly connected artist to write like that."
-Lucky Boyd (Texas Music Awards) Thanks Lucky.

My former-troubadour pal, Danny, told me to strive for one self-expectation as a songwriter: "Write songs that feel 'real' with a groove that is understandable." If I can do this, and keep improving at this, my contributions to music will become more timeless. You can bet that I will sing songs of celebration, thankfulness, and pay homage to great stories that were and should have been.

When it comes to playing live, I hand-picked a great group of guys to help who understand my creative goals ("Casey Hubble & Lost Trains") My younger brother, Joey Hubble, plays bass, harmonica, cajon, foot-snare, tambourine, and sings...sometimes at the same time. Jimmy Milner is the heartbeat of Lost Trains; impeccable timing, a feel for "groove" and about as much energy as any drummer who won't fall off the throne. My lead guitarist, Daniel David, is a seasoned guitar-veteran and an amazing showman. He has an extraordinary ear for "songwriter style" accompaniment and is the only one in the band who really knows how to dance.

My hope is that you will strike up a friendship, based on curiosity, with my songs and stories. Whether you're hearing me in your kitchen, on a late night radio show, or at one of our concerts...I hope you appreciate my youthful contributions to an industry that could use a few more old men.
