The Call

Written By: Cassidy Diana Wetherell

The Call
Some kids watch their parents go off to work, but we watch our parents go off to war. We are the children of the United States Military, and this is our story.
Momma said, “Don’t worry, It’s gonna be alright.”
“Daddy’s gonna be gone for a little while.”
I remember that afternoon when we said goodbye.
I remember that stream of tears running down my eyes.

Chorus: Daddy’s gonna be gone for a little while.
Daddy’s saving us, he’s risking his life.
No need to catch him ‘cause I know he’ll never fall.
Daddy answered the call.

Some Dads were lawyers, some make cars, others are doctors, but not ours.
And he stands strong; leaps through every opened door.
Some don’t make it back. With an angel they soar.

Chorus: Daddy’s gonna be gone for a little while.
Daddy’s saving us he’s risking his life.
No need to catch him ‘cause I know he’ll never fall.
Daddy answered the call.

Letters kept on coming every week. The phone calls got shorter. Through the black ink we’d speak.
I remember that time, I fell to my knees. Seeing daddy go off to war was just too much for me.

Chorus: Daddy’s gonna be gone for a little while.
Daddy’s saving us he’s risking his life.
No need to catch him ‘cause I know he’ll never fall.

A couple years later we were a family again. Soldiers came back with scars of war in their heads.
Daddy stayed a few months then he was gone again. He was gone again. Daddy was gone again.
The Call, the call, the call.
My Daddy answered the call.
