Castles

Castles

BandRockAcoustic

A tasteful balance of influences from singer/songwriters to pop rock to jazz, the music of Castles transcends typical genre limitations. With an ever-maturing take on songwriting, Castles tirelessly pushes the envelope and the meaning of "heartfelt" when it comes to music.

Biography

Once in awhile, a person knows what he will do before even realizing it. In second grade, Wisconsin native Kevin Castillo drew a picture of himself with two friends - himself playing a guitar and singing into a microphone, the other two playing guitar and drums. Showing his work to his friends, Kevin said, "This is us when we're grown up." Fast-forward to the present, and 21-year-old Kevin is working at that same dream he illustrated years before. Castles is the embodiment of that dream. A wide array of influences ranging from jazz to pop rock allows Kevin to write and perform with a fluency that transcends genre labels. Pairing thoughtlessly fluid guitar work with a passionate voice to deliver thoughtful lyrics, Castles comes to life wherever people will listen.

Lyrics

Time

Written By: Kevin Castillo

I'm twisted up and so confused -
Three hours on the phone with you.
Now every second I'm alone
Makes me wish you were back home.
I know I leave you high and dry.
Believe me girl; don't start to cry.
Believe me that it will take time,
But believe me, girl, it's worth my life

'Cause days are getting shorter,
And I don't know where time goes.
Just sit back; just relax.
Sip your coffee real slow

'Cause time has a funny way
Of moving on without us,
And even if we fight it,
It's an uphill battle that we're never gonna win,
But time has a funny limitation
That it can't move on without us,
And long after it's left us,
Then we'll just start to begin.

I know the beaches aren't much here,
And the water's not so clear.
Bring seashells in your pockets, dear.
Come home to quell my fear.
I know the beaches aren't much here,
And the water's not so clear.
Bring seashells in your pockets, dear.
Come home to quell my fear.

'Cause days are getting shorter,
And I don't know where time goes.
Just sit back; just relax.
Sip your coffee real slow

'Cause time has a funny way
Of moving on without us,
And even if we fight it,
It's an uphill battle that we're never gonna win,
But time has a funny limitation
That it can't move on without us,
And long after it's left us,
Then we'll just start to begin.

You don't need my face to breathe,
But can't you see it's different for me
Different for me?
You don't need my face to breathe,
But can't you see it's different for me
Different for me?
You don't need my face to breathe,
But can't you see

That time has a funny way
Of moving on without us,
And even if we fight it,
It's an uphill battle that we're never gonna win,
But time has a funny limitation
That it can't move on without us,
And long after it's left us,
Then we'll just start to begin.
Time has a funny way
Of moving on without us,
And even if we fight it,
It's an uphill battle that we're never gonna win,
But time has a funny limitation
That it can't move on without us,
And long after it's left us,
Then we'll just start to begin.

Wait for You

Written By: Kevin Castillo

Clock ticks itself to sleep.
I hear the sound of pairs of feet
Cast a wish into the sky.
Come on, baby, stay up all night.
A million nights to go to bed,
But this one's different from the rest.
You know I'm broken just to leave.
Tonight's a secret we should keep.

I'll wait for you;
You'll wait for me.
We're miles apart,
But soon we'll be together.
I'll never hold the hand of another.

Stay awake so I can drive
Awake the full moonlight
If I took your hand and I
Just prayed to catch your eye
Stay awake so I can drive
Awake the full moonlight
If I took your hand and I
Just prayed to catch your eye

You know I'm broken just to leave.

I'll wait for you;
You'll wait for me.
We're miles apart,
But soon we'll be together.
I'll never hold the hand of another.

Fingers wandering bare arms -
I miss that charm
With coffee brewed at midnight,
Sleepless nights,
I hate, I hate, I hate to say 'goodbye'.
Fingers wandering bare arms -
I miss that charm
With coffee brewed at midnight,
Sleepless nights,
I hate, I hate, I hate to say 'goodbye'.
Goodbye, goodbye.

I'll wait for you;
You'll wait for me.
We're miles apart,
But soon we'll be together.
I'll never hold the hand of another.
I'll wait for you;
You'll wait for me.
We're miles apart,
But soon we'll be together.
I'll never hold the hand of another.

Nothing More

Written By: Kevin Castillo

Let's take it back in time -
Before you were mine
With you first capturing these eyes.
You were my sweet sunshine
In a clear blue sky
With our love shining just as bright.
Now you should know that road
Is calling out my name in G,
And I'd let you go
If it would make you happier
Than waiting on me.

You're the perfect girl,
But I am not the perfect man,
But it's all I've got,
But I know one thing is for sure:
I love you - nothing more.

Let's hope it clears up soon
Between me and you -
That all these notions turn out true.
Let's hope it ends up true -
The perfect chick flick ending
Saved for me and you.
I know I can't promise that
The scenery won't change.
It's a leap of faith, but I'll say
That love will find a way.

You're the perfect girl,
But I am not the perfect man,
But it's all I've got,
But I know one thing is for sure:
I love you - nothing more.

You are the sentence that makes a prisoner smile.
(You are the sentence; show me the sentence. You are the sentence; show me the sentence. You are the sentence; show me the sentence now.)
(I love you - nothing more. I love you - nothing more, nothing more.)

You're the perfect girl,
But I am not the perfect man,
But it's all I've got,
But I know one thing is for sure:
I love you - nothing more.

We're the perfect pair,
But I am not the perfect man,
But it's all I've got,
But I know one thing is for sure:
I love you - nothing more.
I love you - nothing more.

Heartbeats and Road Signs

Written By: Kevin Castillo

I'm chasing my dreams
Somewhere I've never been
'Cause time is a spider,
And I'm caught in her web,
And I'm not gonna die
Saying that I've never lived.
I'm lost, but I've never felt quite so found
On the interstate highway,
Headed out of this town,
And my right side signal
Has long burned out because

I turn right at every red light.
Could never stay too long in the same place
Gotta keep moving on, moving on.

Hey, come on, these hands are begging for air,
So fly them out the window like you don't care.
We've got the top down, top down.
No matter what, we'll never turn around,

And the gas tank is starved,
But I've gotta keep on driving
'Cause these songs keep me alive.

I turn right at every red light.
Could never stay too long in the same place.
Gotta keep moving on, moving on.
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)

So let's sit out awhile and watch the waves,
Roll through the summer in style.
We'll never feel the same.
We've got the top down, top down.
We're driving fast as we sing out loud,

And the gas tank is starved,
But I've gotta keep on driving
'Cause these songs keep me alive.

I turn right at every red light.
Could never stay too long in the same place.
Gotta keep moving on, moving on.
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)

I love this town I know so well,
But I think I love the passing lane more.
Yeah, I think I love the passing lane more.

I turn right at every red light.
Could never stay too long in the same place.
Gotta keep moving on, moving on.

And the gas tank is starved,
But I've gotta keep on driving
'Cause these songs keep me alive.

I turn right at every red light.
Could never stay too long in the same place.
Gotta keep moving on, moving on.
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Where You Are

Written By: Kevin Castillo

I wanna see you in the morning sunshine.
I wanna see the clouds disperse from the sky.
I wanna see a smile on your face
When I tell you that you are filling the space

Inside my heart -
That's right where you are.

I wanna hear the birds singing to me.
I wanna feel the warm sun set me free.
I wanna smell the air, fresh and clean.
I wanna tell you just how much you mean

Inside my heart -
That's right where you are.

I wanna feel your hand slip into mine.
I want it to be summer all the time.
I wanna taste the coffee on your lips.
I don't ever want to forget about this.

Inside my heart -
That's right where you are.
Inside my dreams -
That's right where you'll be.
Inside my heart -
That's right where you are.

Set List

While consistency is important, "feeling" an audience is just as important, and a Castles performance contains a pleasant balance of the two. The complete Castles repertoire contains about 30 originals, and a typical set showcases about 20 of them, generally taking about 1:45 - 2:00. Songs range from bright, energetic pop rock to more laid-back tunes infused with jazzy chords and pleasant crooning. Castles is able to (and regularly does) entertain diverse kinds of audiences, from coffee shops crowded with teenagers to bars with 60+ crowds.
