"EP Alert!: Catch Kid – Build a Fire with Me"

Somewhere in the shadows of Camp Randall, in the heart of Madison, WI, stands a warehouse where two young talents are fashioning their sound, preparing it for the big stages. Nate Rusch and Luke Osiecki are Catch Kid – a blossoming indie pop duo, who earlier this month released their second EP, Build a Fire with Me. Their songs are big enough for the masses, built upon strong melodic backbones and solid songwriting. And while the DNA of Catch Kid is very much the same from their debut EP, Geronimo, it’s clear that they have taken a big step forward with Build a Fire with Me.

The EP is four tracks laced heavily with piano melodies as the foundation for their sound. Crediting Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’ for this very fact, it’s no wonder the band draws some parallels to their British influences. But, to suggest that their sound is carved only of that mold would be selling Catch Kid quite short. While the atmospheric guitars and piano melodies may soften the edges, the edges are still there, giving Catch Kid more of a rock feel than some of their other contemporaries playing in a similar style. ‘Blast Radius’ is probably the best example of this, allowing access to the casual listener, while never really losing its grit. Shades of early Keane, early The Fray, as well as Air Traffic and Civil Twilight are present on Build a Fire with Me. Keep an eye on these two – we think they’re just getting revved up. - Goodbye Babylon

Bio

Catch Kid emerges from the beautiful foothills of the Midwest and are blossoming into fruitful song makers.  Built on pure songwriting, distinct vocals, anthemic melodies and a handsome timekeeper manning the kit, their songs are big enough for the masses.  Dubbed as the tallest band in the city of Madison and surrounding area, they spend their days fashioning their sound in an abandoned dairy factory, preparing it for the big stages.

The front man, Nate Rusch, has never taken a piano lesson in his life. I cant read sheet music, so what..

Lead guitarist Jeremy Van Mill is one of the most talented guitarists in Madison, and his skill translates anthemically on stage. He brings the full sound and depth to Catch Kids songs, and remains completely in control and humble while doing so.

The fellow handling the beat responsibilities, Luke Osiecki, has an uncanny ability to produce fresh, tasty beats that forces the audience to shake a leg. I am more than just a timekeeper. Every time I write my parts, my intentions are to improve the feel and vibe of the song, not just the tempo. If I get listeners to tap their foot, mission accomplished.
