"Exclusive: Catey Shaw Slays at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory in ‘Tell Everyone’ Video"

Catey Shaw does a lot of things right. Her songwriting is poppy but incisive, her voice is downright mellifluous, and, as her video for “Tell Everyone” shows, she can work a crowd and rock a white pantsuit.

The queer songstress behind “Brooklyn Girls” and “Human Contact” brings down the house in her “Tell Everyone” video, filmed at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory.

“'Tell Everyone’ is about the fear of an ex-lover making you out to be evil to all of your mutual friends and pushing you out,” says Shaw. “Everything in a relationship, all the way to the breakup, takes two.”

“This is a song that has actually been around for a few years. I had always played it live but for one reason or another, the recording never quite nailed it for me. We got my band into the studio and completely overhauled the song. Now it all works together; equal parts angry and groovy.”

The video’s a fun, upbeat short that does justice to the track and Shaw’s stellar showmanship. Furthermore, it’s a preview of what’s to come as Shaw embarks on her first ever tour—featuring stops in NYC, Boston, Philly, Chicago and more.

"BAEBLE FIRST PLAY: Exclusive Video Premiere of Catey Shaw's "Love Sick Jerk""

Catey Shaw garnered quite a bit of praise for her last release, 2014's The Brooklyn EP. Gearing up for her forthcoming EP Ransom, Catey Shaw has released the visual accompaniment to "Love Sick Jerk," the fourth single off of the new record.

The video for "Love Sick Jerk" features a beautiful, broken, boozing, smoking Shaw, resembling a fallen pop queen as she sashays through balloons and streamers at her guestless party, but with a hardened stare that says, "I've been through some shit."

The dance-pop track's dominant genre would be easier to identify if it didn't feel so stylistically nuanced, and Shaw has the ability to produce honeyed pop melodies, adorned by the slightest croons, making for a sound that's both vintage and modern, indie and mainstream. The video for "Love Sick Jerk" beautifully complements Shaw's dark-pop aesthetic, proving she's a far more multidimensional artist than first meets the eye.

Shaw gives some insight into what inspired the track, explaining that, "You meet someone, you fall in love with their ways, their confidence, their humor. Then a few months in they're a total sap and they're riding your ass about not loving them enough all the time. It's exhausting. "

Not unfamiliar with penning anthemic tracks, like 2014's "Brooklyn Girls" Shaw proves her unbelievable versatility as a singer, delivering classic cool vocals with dance-pop sensibility.

Bio

Catey Shaw truly got her start underground- in the New York City subways. She played a beat-up ukulele for spare change until she was scooped her up from the train platform and into the recording studio.

She released her debut EP, "Clouds" in February 2013, ringing with lyrics of love, family and the freedom of her bohemian, NYC lifestyle. In 2014 she released “The Brooklyn EP” featuring viral hits “Human Contact” and “Brooklyn Girls,” cementing herself into the indie-pop scene. That momentum continues to today with newly released Ransom EP. Her influences span from hip-hop to disco, Billie Holiday to Bob Marley. Through channeling her well-rounded understanding of the world into pop music, Catey Shaw makes her unique voice impossible to tune-out.

Aside from music, Catey is a lifelong painter and a true artist. She views everything she creates as self-portraiture, and shares with her audience unapologetically.
