Bio

The blues, it can be said is a matter of tradition, passed down from one generation to the next. With this passing down comes evolution whereby the younger generation takes the substance of tradition and brings it up to date...

This is the very idea that harmonica player Aaron Gillett and drummer Russell Banister had in mind after their 2 year course, studying music at NMIT. Playing in a blues act called "2-shot" consisting of harp, drums, guitar and vocals, the trio quickly gained large local appeal for their fresh young approach to such traditional blues.

After the quick, unexpected departure of the guitarist/singer the powerhouse harp and drums combo were looking to retain their line-up but update it further, with a bigger sound than before. The answer came in Julian Byrne, a powerful young singer who was also quite skilled on the guitar. Soon after, in mid 2010 came the first complete lineup of "Catfish-Voodoo"

Quickly gaining a following for their unusually 'huge' sound, within a year the trio had managed radio air play, and had performed, even headlined at many of Melbourne's premier live music venues.
including; The Espy (basement and Gerswin room), Revolver upstairs, the Tote, Ruby's lounge, St Andrerws hotel, The Cornish arms, Brunswick hotel, the Drunken poet...
as well as many local festivals and private events.

The band fully realised the potential of their sound with the inclusion of rock-solid bassist James Sommer. Now promoting their debut, self titled album Catfish-Voodoo is carving a blues fuelled trail through the Melbourne music scene. With big sights in mind, their live shows and studio work are sure to impress even the most discerning blues enthusiast.
