Newtown resident Catherine Golden has received recognition from an international songwriting competition.
Ms Golden achieved success in the 2006 UK Songwriting Contest, making into the finals of the indie category with her song Free and the semi-finals with Queen of Hearts.
'I had a good feeling about the song but that actually confirmed that the song was commercially viable,' she said.
Ms Golden has been writing songs seriously for the past three years and plays bass guitar in a band, Pussy Foot.
'It is emotive self-expression, therapeutic release and something that can be shared with other people,' she said.
The UK Song Writing Contest was formed in 2002 by the Brit Trust to encourage and promote songwriging. BBC Radio, Music Aid and the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers are among its supporters. - The Glebe and Inner West Weekly

Catherine Golden is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. After a childhood seeped in music and performing in various bands, Catherine's first love, songwriting, has became her core focus. Her music expresses her innate love of life, a feeling she wishes to share.
