"God Help the Girl"

Voiced angelically by Catherine Ireton... Ireton's bookish ingenue gives herself to the Holy Trinity: sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll. God love 'er. - Pitchfork

"Go Away Birds, Usher Hall"

**** Their 14-song set was an assured display of musicianship...
Highwire, their opening song, made an instant and lasting impression - where more cumbersome vocalists might have smothered the rhythmic spaces within McCarthy and Moore's sparse arrangements, Ireton caressed them. Jauntier songs like Safe Sad You and The Lady is a Tramp - an Ella Fizgerald cover that proved a vivacious highlight - offered a welcome dose of pep to gentler moments." - Scotsman

"God Help the Girl"

Catherine Ireton's lead vocals are wonderfully pure and filthily sensual - The Guardian

Bio

Catherine Ireton is an Irish musician and performer based in Brighton. Having studied theatre in Cork she moved to the UK in 2005 prompted by an invitation from Stuart Murdoch of Belle and Sebastian who had her in mind for a musical project. Several years later and Ireton is the voice of Eve, the lead character of the album God Help the Girl released on Rough Trade and Matador in 2009. Ireton who sings on the majority of the tracks was considered to be one of the main strengths of the album.

"The crucial presence is Murdoch’s discovery, Catherine Ireton. Ireton’s vocals bring a whole gallery of heartfelt grins" - The Word

Since its release Ireton has been involved in several other collaborations including working with members of Glasgow indie band Zoey van Goey (Chemical Underground) to form Go Away Birds, a folk-pop group that self released several EPs. The group performed live on Marc Reilly's BBC6 show, as well as performing at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh and the Union Chapel, London.

Most recently Ireton has been developing a solo project From me to you - a song cycle of voice and piano. Influenced by her background in theatre, Ireton's real strength is in live performance. Her music will take you inside worlds of haunted houses and children's hiding places dotted with acapella dreams and catchy anti-romantic lovesongs.
