Bio

Through her lyrics and melody Catrien is able to capture the experience of longing and desire. The quest for love to find meaningful and honest relationships with the people in our lives is captured in her songwriting and unique sound. Her melodic style is similar to ZZ Ward, Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson.

Originally from San Diego, California Catrien started writing and playing guitar at age 13.  She comes from a very close and musical family.  Her dad played guitar and her mom was a lead singer of a cover band.  During her childhood, she would always hear her dad playing guitar and her older sister showed her how to play some basic chords.  In sixth grade, she got the bug to perform in front of an audience after singing a solo verse in a school play.  She was able to overcome her extreme shyness through the loving support from family and friends. But, a year later her family moved to another town and she felt isolated struggling with shyness trying to fit in to a new group of friends.  At an early age, her social awareness caused her to turn more inward with her emotions. Over a period of the next several years she continued to shut down emotionally eventually unable to leave her home for even short periods of time.  Writing became an outlet for her to ease anxiety and express herself.  Singing what she wrote allowed her to turn ugly words into something beautiful she could could share.  Eventually, with her inner strength and desire to want to get better and heal she was able to overcome her fears.  Music was always the bridge that opened up her life perspective.  She realized that many of us go through similar situations about love, life and struggling to find where we fit in this world.  "Hey You" is one of many songs she wrote about helping to navigate on the path of life.  Catrien continues to share through her writing and performance life's duality of what is beautiful and ugly in this world.

Her song "Breakfast in Bed" has been featured on the San Diego radio station KPRI Listen Locals Cookbook, Volume 2 and the Homegrown Hour with Cathryn Beeks.  Catrien also has two film credits.  "Hey You" was featured in the documentary Tapping the Source released in 2011 www.tappingthesourcemovie.com and "Monster" which she co-wrote with her sister Dixie Maxwell was featured in the film Killer Holiday released in 2013.
