"Reggae Vibes Production Review - Hooligan"

Rating : from 5 (excellent) to 1 (poor)

Vocals : 4/5 Backing : 5 Production : 4 Sound quality : 5 Sleeve : 3/4
Producer Jason Sterling of Jasfar Records, who often operates alongside Lloyd & Michelle Campbell of the Joe Frazier label, relicked for his own Jasfar Records the 'Hooligan'-riddim, that ruled the dancehalls in 1984 when Henry 'Junjo' Lawes produced Frankie Paul's version for his Volcano Records, based on the John Holt penned 1966 Paragons' Studio One classic "Change Your Style". The original tune is opening this album performed by Glen Washington, before (we're talking late 80s here) former upcoming Beres Hammond protégé and later like, Jason Sterling, in Florida residing Screwdriver delivers the fine anti-system tune "Mi Nuh Like" and highly rated UK based vocalist Lloyd Brown's heartfelt can't take this "No More" I'm out the door. Fiona 'Forever' Robinson, who also excels on Joe Frazier & Jasfar productions, contributes the beautiful smooth "Life" followed by the wicked combination of Yami Bolo & Big Youth, true Waterhouse vocal style delivery coupled with old school deejaying on "Wrongs" and then Causion from the twin-Island of Antigua and Barbuda, who last impressed with his sophomore album "One Life To Live" gives us one of the best performances on this riddim with the stunning "Know Jah". Hopeton Lindo's high pitched vocals are coming through fine on "The Real Thing" and so is former (late 70s) Yabby You protégé veteran Wayne Wade, who now records almost exclusively for the Florida based labels Heavy Beat of Willie Lindo and the afore-mentioned Joe Frazier, with his complaint to his girl "Joe" asking who she was with last night. Mical Rustle, the very gifted vocalist who recorded in 2003 an album together with Wayne Wade for Lloyd & Michelle Campbell's Joe Frazier label, contributes the excellent "My Soul" before Two Of A Kind - the to me unknown Stephenson siblings - deliver the great "Living My Life" as last vocal track over the fine relick of this great 'Hooligan'-riddim. As a bonus two mixes have been included, the 14:30 minutes "Hooligan Mix" in true soundsystem fashion and the 4:30 minutes "Bush Hooligan Mix" cutting up the riddim and the tunes a bit more, and both seem to explain the ambiguity a lot of selectors felt hearing this riddim: great riddim, great singers, but the fact that they all have or adopt the same kind of style diminishes the impact of each single tune. I however would recommended to all enthusiasts of lovers rock riddims and vocals, otherwise listen in closely before buying.

"Full Speed ahead with Causion"

Causion is regarded by many persons in music circles as Antigua's reggae ambassador, and if there is any doubt about his right to the title check out his latest album - One Life To Live.

Causion has new set out. The set, believed to be his best effort to date, combines the production talents of two of Jamaica's foremost music producers, Hopeton Lindon and Syl Gordon, supported by engineer Jason Sterling and musicians Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, I-Paul, Stephen 'Lenky' Marsden, Al Isaac, Vince McCoy and Dean Fraser.

The album features tracks like Gang War and Slave Addiction, with the reassurance that he has not strayed from the straight and narrow path of addressing social and historical issues. Other tracks, like Give Jah The Power, confirm his religious authenticity, and ballads, like Keep On Moving, remind us of his versatility.

The set was launched at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida in May and, according to Causion, has been doing very well since.

Causion, a conscious lovers' rock exponent, has been reaping success with his reggae songs since 1988 and, in the 17 years, he has confirmed his talent, as well as his commitment to the roots of the music, which has given social sustenance to so many around the world.

His first hit was a single titled African Girl, which featured British deejay Spider Don. The song shot to the top of the Caribbean charts in New York and won him a considerable following among reggae fans. He moved to New York in 1990 and between then and 1994 he recorded four more singles - Different World, All About Love, Crossroads and All Night Long, all of which were heavily rotated on tri-state radio.

His cover of Breaking Up, first done in reggae by Alton Ellis, featuring Miss Linda of Worl-A-Girl, entered New York's reggae top ten in 1995, and in 1996 he covered Groove Theory's Tell Me, which was also very popular in the United States and the Caribbean.

He released his debut album, Time Will Tell in 1998, a very impressive compilation containing 14 captivating gems which he described as "timeless", with something for today and something for tomorrow.

Over the years, Causion has toured the US and the Caribbean as the opening act for some of reggae's top stars, including Rita Marley, Third World, Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor.

He was honoured in 1995 as the first Antiguan artiste to perform at Reggae Sumfest and has performed at most major reggae festivals in the US, including Reggae Cari-Fest, Bob Marley Day in Camden, New Jersey, as well as Cry Freedom, which is staged annually in his homeland, Antigua.

Causion has also appeared on Fox network's Good Day NY show, and has performed at several well-known clubs in that city, including the Lion's Den, Nell's, Tramps, SOB's, New Music Cafe, Jam-Rock NY, Main Street, Ouback Lodge and Wild Hare.

In 1999, he relocated to south Florida, where he teamed up with Lindo and Gordon of Sylton and 321 Strong Records. There he recorded Intimidation, which has been very popular among Caribbean reggae fans around the world.

"Review: Causion One Life To Live"

It's been almost 8 years ago that Causion, born Gregory Colin Bailey in the twin-Island of Antigua and Barbuda, released his very impressive debut album "Time Will Tell". It's almost unbelievable that so much time has gone after that set, before Causion, who knew from an early age that he wanted to be a professional singer/songwriter/musician - and reggae was the way, after this early establishment as a talented singer. Starting out he didn't have to search far for support and inspiration to achieve his goals as he grew up in a family, where many members are established musicians. Causion first enjoyed success in 1988 with a combination tune entitled "African Girl". During the first half of the nineties he released several 7" singles, which were well received both in the US and the Caribbean. He teamed up with the Kingston JA based engineer/producer Syl Gordon of both "Cylton" Records and "321 Strong" for whom he recorded the single "Intimidation", which was released in the spring of 1997. This tune - the opener of his first album - came to Reggae Vibes' Teacher & Mr.T's attention later that year and got a "four out of five stars" review in which they stated the following "... a nice conscious cut on an upbeat, contemporary and full-sounding original riddim. An appealing record that immediately grabs you and makes you wanna dance". In the years between Causion kept releasing impressive 7"s for Syl Gordon's 321 Strong & Cell Block labels and Fiona & Jason Sterling's Jasafar label, all included on this sophomore album "One Life To Live". His combination for Cell Block with Germany's reggae star Gentleman "Jah Is The Ruler", that was released as a 7" mid 2005, opens this album in strong fashion, followed by the fine "Give Jah The Power" and the very nice Hopeton Lindo and Winston 'Bopee' Bowen co-written - 2004 7" on Cell Block - love ballad "Glad You're Mine". A great cover of Alton Ellis' in 1968 for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle and a year later for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One recorded "Breaking Up" is up next, and this - 2005 7" released on Jasfar - tune is a prime example of the excellent female backing vocals adding an extra dimension to almost every tune on this album, provided by most often by Fiona, but also Michelle Gayle, Michelle Gordon, Raquelle Philips, Twiggie, Sharon Forrester, Pam Hall with Brian & Tony Gold and Melanie Lynch. The 2003 on Cell Block as 7" released "Number One" has Causion delivering Hopeton Lindo lyrics (who is (co-)writer of many tunes on this album) over Alton Ellis' 1967 Studio One 'I'm Still In Love'-riddim. Then Causion's soulful voice is used to full effect in a pop-reggae ballad adaptation of soul singer Sam Cooke's 1963 "Keep Movin On", before going even one tad slower for the title tune, the ballad "One Life To Live" and the very catch "Who The Hell" (do you think you are?). "Spiritual Journey" is a great conscious tune with beautiful trumpet accents by Junior 'Chico' Chin, followed by "Don't Throw Your Life Away", and the further you are getting into this album, the more you realize how close Causion's voice and delivery get to that of UK's Maxi Priest. "Hold On" is bit too much of a pop ballad for my taste despite Dean Fraser's great saxophone contribution, but strangely enough that is compensated for in the excellent cover of R&B star R. Kelly's "I Wish". On the next lovers tune, the great "Bet You Didn't Know" it's the reminiscence with Maxi Priest again making a big impression, followed by the tune that gave 321 Strong's 2000 selection over the 'Addiction'-riddim its name, the great "Slave Addiction" being the number one killer of the black population. On the uptempo "Born To Be Dread" the fine faster paced delivery is supported by some great Dean Fraser horn accents again, before the harsh reality of "Gang War" is depicted over a nice Firehouse Crew riddim. This very fine sophomore album by Causion is closed (over a Christopher 'Longman' Birch built riddim) with the poppy "Feel The Vibes", and it surely should be hoped for that it won't take another 7 or 8 years before we hear again from this very talented singer.

"Review: Causion Time Will Tell"

Born Gregory Colin Bailey in the twin-Island of Antigua and Barbuda, Causion knew from an early age that he wanted to be a professional singer/songwriter/musician - and reggae was the way. He didn't have to search far for support and inspiration to achieve this goal as he grew up in a family, where many members are established musicians. This tune - the opener of this album - came to our attention later that year and got a "four out of five star" review in which we stated the following "... a nice conscious cut on an upbeat, contemporary and full-sounding original riddim. An appealing record that immediately grabs you and makes you wanna dance." The self-penned tracks on Causion's debut album, "Time Will Tell", showcase a songwriter whose lyrics are charged with intense emotions and deep social consciousness. Consider him a musical archer - his powerful lyrics are straightforward and on point. Furthermore Causion is a fine singer with an appealing, soulful voice who proves equally at home with message tunes and lovers songs.
"Time Will Tell" contains the previously released singles "Breaking Up", a decent cover of the Alton Ellis classic featuring Miss Linda, his entertaining 1996 cover of Groove Theory's "Tell Me", and the already mentioned "Intimidation". Among the remaining tracks one finds standout efforts like "Merciful Father", the wicked combination with Sizzla, "Put Your Trust In Jah", the title track "Time Will Tell", "Jah Is The Ruler", "Careless Husband" (utilizing Ernest Wilson's "I Know Myself" riddim) and "My Way Back To You", delivered over a wicked rendition of the "Declaration Of Rights" riddim". Causion's vocal and lyrical delivery, the well laid original and revitalized riddims and the many great tunes make "Time Will Tell" a truly enjoyable and solid album!

"Dread Like Me"

MOJA jumps into things with its ever popular Reggae Block Dance

Each year, the MOJA Festival kicks off its 10-day celebration of African and Caribbean Arts with one of its most reliably popular (and cheapest) public events, the free Reggae Block Dance behind the U.S. Custom House. And each year, if you're not actually attending the event, drivers are advised to think long and hard about venturing anywhere near the east end of the peninsula, because they're likely to find themselves going exactly nowhere. The Block Dance — with a lineup of calypso, ska, roots, and other Jamaican-influenced jam styles, African drummers and dancers, an array of ethnic food and international crafts, and of course plenty of beer and wine — attracts vast tides of shimmying, gyrating humanity like NASCAR attracts good old boys.

The evening-length event traditionally begins at 6 p.m. in Marion Square with a Caribbean Street Parade, a colorful tribute to island culture. Children from Charleston County public and private schools and organizations will don handmade, Caribbean-influenced costumes while African dance and drum group Bob Small and Harambe perform. Spectators are invited to dance along with the procession as it travels from Marion Square down King Street to Market Street, where it jumps, shouts, and ululates its way down to the Custom House.

There, MOJA officially begins with a short opening ceremony, followed this year by African dance and drumming and opening act Rolly Gray and Sunfire.

"Rolly's old school, he's making it happen," says Block Dance coordinator and host Osei Chandler, remembering when the artist used to play Charleston in the '70s and '80s at Myskyn's Tavern. "And he opened in 1981 for Peter Tosh at the Gaillard."

The Block Dance will kick into high gear with the reggae stylings of Antigua and Barbuda native Causion (pictured above), who's toured throughout the U.S. and with some of the Caribbean's best artists, including Rita Marley, Third World, Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, and Judy Mowatt.

A forceful and charismatic performer, Causion is fully conscious of the social and political roots of his music's history. His lyrics are filled with appealing messages that blend reggae, soul, and pop, and his new album One Life To Live (JasFar Records) — featuring tracks like "Jah Is the Ruler," "Born to Be Dread," and "Slave Addiction" — has been called his best effort to date.

Chandler observes that Causion has played at the Block Dance before, as well as James Island County Park's Reggae Nights. "I'm looking forward to a very professional production. He's known as Antigua's Reggae Ambassador, and he takes that very seriously," Chandler says. "He's both a showman and an artist. It's certainly one of the more exciting Reggae Block Dances in a while." — - Patrick Sharbaugh - Charleston City Paper (SC)

"Causion… One life to live"

The launching of ‘One life to live’, by Antiguan reggae artist Causion, took place recently at the Seminole Paradise at the Hard Rock Hotel (most people will go by the Hard Rock Casino).

It was the buhmb. Oops… that won’t work.

Actually, it was very good and an excellent example of how to go about an album launch. The organizers did something innovative… they put time, money and planning into the event, and Eureka!… it worked.

Though it was an album launch for Causion, several respected and well known (some not so well known) artists were on show. These included Marcia Ball, Peter Gayle, Tinga Stewart, and Glen Washington.

The event generated a nice but not necessarily cosy atmosphere. It was quite HOT and humid, as the event was held outdoors, kinda. Heat was also generated from the hot stage lights and most definitely from the high energy generated by all the performers.

The stage was placed in the wide walkways between shops, bars, and clubs and that gave the feel of a kinda, street concert. The neon lights of the surrounding bars and clubs added to the ‘flava’.

Several hundreds turned out or tuned in for the launch, and it was like a Marley’s reggae party rather than a dancehall session. The fashions were nice, colorful, glittery, and even ‘rasta’-rly regal. The crowd was mixed. It was evident that many not really used to ‘yaad’ music, were diverted from their original purpose at the casino by the sounds of reggae’s hypnotic beat.

But they stayed and even grew larger as the evening progressed.

The backing band for the affair was the talented Millennium band. We were late coming in so I can’t comment on the earlier fare but I did catch Tinga Stewart and Gel Washington.

It is evident that Tinga has successfully remade himself and has the ability to choose songs that still appeal to his audience. His voice has mellowed more than it has suffered with age.

Glen Washington worked up quite a sweat, and even though he was on for only a short time, his professionalism made sure this was no itty-bit throw-away performance.

The artist of the moment goes by the name Causion (born Gregory Bailey). It was his album launch that created the occasion but it was his performance that drew the respect.

This Antiguan born singer, reminded me a little of Maxi Priest, both in looks and some mannerisms. But it would be unfair to draw comparisons particularly as I’m sure he’s not trying to be a clone. But while Priest’s main focus is lovers rock, Causion is socially conscious music.

But like Priest, he is one heck of a performer. In fact, it might be considered unprecedented for a performer at his own album launch to do an hour long show with such dynamism and energy. He was there to sell himself and the album, not merely preen at his accomplishment.

And sell his talent he did. He interacted well with the audience who warmed to him and at one point, jumped down into the appreciative crowd and serenaded a few ladies.

His album, “One life to live”, is self produced with collaboration from Hopeton Lindo and Syl Gordon. Musicians on the album include Sly and Robbie, Dean Fraser, and Hopeton Lindo. The selections on the album blend reggae, soul and pop music.

"Causion Says It Loud & Clear....We All Have One Life To Live"

Reggae’s acceptance has grown by leaps-and-bounds since the days of foundation artists like Jacob Miller, Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Garnet Silk, and many other fallen soldiers. One thing that has remained constant is Reggae’s message and its relentless conviction to praise and worship Jah. This message has spread globally from Jamaica, throughout the world and has reached Antigua.

Antigua’s international reggae star Causion is burning that same fire on his latest release: “One Life to Live”. It’s an inspirational album with a global message containing 17 tracks with a message of love and the 3-R’s: roots, reality, and Rastafari.

“One Life to Live” showcases Causion in potent combinations with Gentleman from Germany with a fervent message on “Jah is the Ruler”, and also with the legendary veteran Hopeton Lindo on “Spiritual Journey”…“trodding on a spiritual journey, moving in a conscious vibe…I see signs and wonders, sudden disasters”. Reality lyrics fe real.

The roots-reality-rasta lyrics continue with “Give Jah The Power”, Slave Addiction, “Gang War”, the slow melodic title track “One Life to Live” and the xylophonic touch accentuating the track “Keep Moving On”.

Causion gives all lovers fans their fix with his rendition of Alton Ellis’s winner “Breaking Up”, “Glad You’re Mine”, “Bet You Didn’t Know”, and “Number One”. His reggae interpretation of R & B crooner R. Kelly’s “I Wish” reaches deep into one’s conscience.

“One Life to Live” keeps you connected throughout to your conscience, reinforcing Causion’s commitment to producing quality rockers that you and your family can all enjoy at anytime.

"Antigua's reggae ambassador, Causion records trailblazing performance"

Friday February 16 2007

Patrons came out in their numbers to see Antigua’s Reggae Ambassador Causion at his best.

The charming, intimate setting of the Hollywood Playhouse Theater was the venue that hosted the “On the road with Causion” concert on 20 Jan., and from the beginning of the show you could tell that it would be a performance that would not be soon forgotten.

Happy concertgoers started milling in from 7:30 p.m. obviously not wanting to miss anything since all promotions leading up to the show emphasised a prompt 8:30 p.m. start.

True to their word the show started promptly at 8:30 p.m. with the debut of the “Know Jah Video” taken from Causion’s soon to be released album "Stella’s Kids' which was filmed on location in Antigua and excerpts from his “On the road with Causion” video documentary which is being predicted to leave audiences captivated and enthralled and should debut in Antigua in March.

The curtains opened with applause from the crowd when singing sensations Simone G took the stage, followed by Joan Williams and Melanie Lynch. Each lady, a diva in her own way, fed the crowd with the sultry sounds of their voices setting the start to a brilliant evening. Melanie Lynch’s rendition of John Legend's Stay with you was breathtaking according to an audience member.

Sir Bradley Brown took the stage proving to be a master at his craft; this Bahamian had the crowd rocking while they anxiously await Causion to take the stage.

The emcee did not have to ask the audience twice if they were ready for Causion as they were obviously anxious, hungry and on their feet by the time he took the stage.

Causion is a performer that you would never tire to see as his performances are never the same and he always seem to out do himself each time.

Even though you think there is no way he can top this one, by the next show he would have done just that, leaving you wondering where he derives such energy and passion for the music.

An entertainer in every sense of the word Causion aimed to please, selecting songs from his “One Life to Live Album” and his upcoming Album “Stella’s Kids”, he delivered hit after hit leaving the audience in a feeding frenzy. Yes, he delivered certain hits for the guys, but it is safe to say the night was all about the ladies.

Mesmeric female patrons went wild when Causion fell to his knees dreads flowing all around him and sang to them Bet you didn’t know you’re one of a kind.

The sound of screaming females at one point seemingly drummed out the sound of Causion’s voice. By the time he left the stage and returned for his encore performance the ladies had literally gone wild.

Proving he more than had a way with the ladies, Causion's soulful sound gently soothed the crowd slowly bringing them down off an all time natural high.

With the help of his background vocalists and the Born to be Dread band Causion closed the show in fine style and delivered yet another memorable performance.

At the end of the show a throng of fans lined up wanting autographs, pictures or to simply congratulate the artiste on his astounding performance.

As usual, always humble, he was thankful that the fans enjoyed themselves and was grateful for the support of fans and sponsors.

What’s next for Causion? Well to find out log on to www.onecausion.com or www.myspace.com/onecausion leave your comments and place your demand where you would like to see this charismatic artiste next perform.

"Antigua's Causion Rocks South Carolina"

The U.S. Customs House, Charleston, South Carolina was ablaze on Friday, September 29, 2006 when Causion “Antigua’s Reggae Ambassador” hit the stage. The event was the 23rd annual MOJA Arts Festival Reggae block dance.

The MOJA Arts Festival is a multi-disciplinary festival produced and directed by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the MOJA Planning Committee and the MOJA Advisory Board. MOJA, a Swahili word meaning "One," is an appropriate name for this celebration of harmony amongst all people in the community. The Festival highlights the many African-American and Caribbean contributions to western and world cultures.

The event began with Mayor Joseph P. Riley welcoming everyone to the annual festival followed by the Harambe African Drum and Dancers who danced their way into the hearts of the crowd. The opening act, a South Carolina based Reggae band were followed by Causion’s ‘Born to be Dread’ band who covered tunes like “Temptress by Maxi Priest, ”Crazy Baldhead” by Bob Marley, Kymani Marley’s” Letter to Dad” and Damian Jr. Gong Marley’s “Welcome to Jamrock” among others, leaving the crowd in a frenzy.

By the time 2 of a Kind hit the stage the 10,000 strong crowd was already in a reggae craze. The Roots and Culture brothers did songs from their album such as “One Perfect Love”, “I Shall Overcome”, ”Let Jah Arise and “Another Friday”, also their new hit tune “ Living The Life” on the Hooligan Rhythm, plus a cover of “Concrete Jungle”, this set is certainly one of their best performances to date.

Clad in jeans and ‘Live it up sport Wear’ shirt, locks flowing, Causion hit the stage at approximately 10:30 p.m. to the calls of screaming fans. A hush fell over the crowd as they listened intently to the voice coming over the PA system, their eyes searching the stage to see where the voice was coming from. And like a lion he pounced on the stage, building and sustaining a positive energy that would prove to last through the entire night. You could feel the energy vibrating from him as he fed the hungry crowd with songs from his Time will Tell album such as “Intimidation,” “Put Your Trust In Jah” and from his One Life to Live album, “Jah Is The Ruler,” “Don’t Throw Your Life Away,” “Breaking Up,” “Glad You Are Mine” and the album’s title track. He also added a few songs from his upcoming album, Stella’s Kids, set to release in March 2007.

When he started singing “Bet You Didn’t Know,” the female fans began screaming as he started handing out roses and on more than one occasion he was almost pulled off the stage by love-struck fans that wanted to touch him or were fascinated with his locks.

By the end of the show and despite a faulty sound system, Causion, backed by the Born to Be Dread Band, delivered a stellar performance from the smooth soulful sounds of his backup singers to the strums and drums of the band, providing an overall awesome performance. By the time Causion completed his encore performance, closing the show with his hit song “Born to Be Dread,” everyone in the crowd wanted a piece of him as they crowded backstage to get their posters autographed or to get a copy of his album.

Promoter of the Moja Arts Festival Osei Terry Chandler says, “This has been the best Moja Arts Festival to date, the overall performances were great but Causion stole the show. “ Christina Shultz, a patron of the festival said, “ I was almost in tears when he sang don’t throw your life away because I can relate to that song” as she hurried to the side of the stage to join other fans already lined up to buy a copy of his album. Gerald Steinberg, another patron stated, “I was moved by his performance from start to finish. His lyrics were clean and conscious and he delivers a message that we can all relate to.” Shelly-ann James an Antiguan national now living in South Carolina said, “I was extremely proud to stand in the audience and watch Causion’s performance. He did Antigua and the Caribbean proud; he truly is Antigua’s Reggae Ambassador.”

I left the event proud to be part of the Caribbean and a completely satisfied concertgoer.

Bio

A forceful and charismatic performer, singer/songwriter, musician, Causion is charged with intense emotions. His deep social and conscious lyrics are filled with appealing messages that blends Reggae, soul and pop music.

Born Gregory Colin Bailey in the beautiful twin-island nation of Antigua & Barbuda, Causion recalls, “I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a professional artist. I grew up in a family of established musicians and I did not have to reach far for either support or inspiration.”

'Causion’s new album ‘One Life To Live’ is definitely his best effort to date. It was self-produced with longtime collaborators Hopeton Lindo & Syl Gordon of 321 Strong Records and with the support of well-known engineer Jason Sterling from JasFar Records. The final production is impeccable.

Fully equipped with the reality lyrics that make him a true contender for the title of conscious artist, Causion enlightens the masses on tracks like ‘Gang War’ and ‘Slave Addiction’. He is showing us how to live a better life with ‘Give Jah The Power’. The albums also includes the ballad style ‘Keep Moving On’ and Pop sounding tunes ‘Feel The Vibes’ and ‘Hold On’ There are several combination cuts with the likes of Hopeton Lindo and Gentleman. This collection will certainly keep hope alive.

Antigua’s Reggae Ambassador, Causion first enjoyed recording success in 1988 with the single ‘African Girl’, featuring British DJ Spider Don. It reached the top of the Caribbean charts and gained him a considerable following. From 1990-‘94 after taking up residency in New York City, he recorded four singles: ‘Different World,’ ‘All About Love,’ ‘Crossroads’ and ‘All Night Long’. All received heavy rotation on the Caribbean airwaves. His 1995 cover of ‘Breaking Up,’ an Alton Ellis original, featuring Miss Linda of Worl-A-Girl, made the top 10 chart that summer in California. In 1996 Causion’s cover of Groove Theory’s ‘Tell Me’ was also very well received both in the US and in the Caribbean.

Working with Hopeton ‘The Pen’ Lindo and Syl Gordon, CEO of Cylton Records and 321 Strong Records, Causion’s first single for the label ‘Intimidation’ received rave reviews. Reggae Vibes, a European publication, gave it a 4-star rating and wrote, “Causion displays his natural ability to turn the obscure into the obvious. Consider him a musical archer - lyrics powerful, straightforward and to the point.”

Causion’s debut album, ‘Time Will Tell,’ was released in 1998, the result of his faith, hard work and perseverance. This impressive conscious Reggae album contains 14 captivating tracks. In the artist’s own words, “It’s timeless - something for today and tomorrow.”

Over the years, he has toured throughout the US and the Caribbean with some of Reggae’s best and brightest artists such as: Rita Marley, Third World, Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor and Judy Mowatt to name a few, giving stellar performance each and every time. He was part of the ‘Tribute to Garnet Silk’ tour to the Caribbean along with Lt. Stichie, Merciless and Professor Nuts.
Causion was honored in 1995 as the first Antiguan Reggae artist to perform at Jamaica’s Sumfest, sharing the stage with Buju Banton, Mikey Spice and Mykal Rose among other luminaries. Some of the other major events he has performed at are the Bob Marley Music Festival in Washington, DC, the Reggae Cari-Fest NY, Bob Marley Day in Camden, NJ, and Cry Freedom Antigua. He took part in the 1996 Mega Youth tour of the Virgin Islands, the Spirit of Unity tour, and a tour of St. Thomas with Worl-A-Girl.

Causion also appeared on Fox’s Good Day NY, as well as performing at numerous well-known clubs in the US, including the Lion’s Den, Nell’s, Tramps, SOB’s, New Music Café, Jam-Rock NY, Main Street, Outback Lodge and Wild Hare.

In 1999 Causion relocated to South Florida, where he appeared at Freddie McGregor’s first ‘Reggae Meets Rocksteady’ show in 2001, and in 2002 opened for Beres Hammond at the James L. Knight Center, both in Miami. He made several South Florida appearances before his performance hiatus to go into the studio for the recording of his sophomore album ‘One Life to Live’. Now Causion’s self-imposed performance pause is over and it’s once again time to enjoy the captivating and exciting artist Causion.
