"Caves"

Wanting to reach summits and see the light from there. Caves shouldn’t stay in the shade for long… Peter Grier is on his own at the helm and will surely make his ship come in. No need to lock oneself in a cabin in Canada, waiting for the beloved’s return, just prick up your ear… the good one ! - www.DeliciousScopitonitone.com

"Caves/Stephen Cooley Split"

Reissue of a cassette originally released by these two Saskatoon Canadian artists on their lonesome. Caves is the solo project of Peter Grier, and manifests a stately shoegaze/bedroom pop vibe. Cooley's approach to pop has a few more Fripp/Eno moves embedded within it, along with some light tape looping.
-Byron Coley - The Wire #338, April 2012

"Cooley High"

Weightless jet-streams of chords soak every minute of this odd split cassette from Saskatoon that clocks in at an astonishing 90 minutes. Caves projects his shoegazing kite along these contorted winds to produce pop-scapes that stretch our emotional imagination. On the flip, Stephen Cooley scales it back to traditional ambient themes that seem to weave between the reverberated vocal echoes and field recordings. Both Caves and Stephen Cooley are quite active in the Saskatoon scene, playing in a number of weird projects (Lion Stab, The Foggy Motions, A Gentle Forest, etc.) I look forward to more from these SK basement weirdos. - www.weirdcanada.com

Bio

Caves started as a recording project for Peter. Indie-folk and experimental pop was the focus. On a 4-track cassette recorder he made a 90 minute split tape with Stephen Cooley in '09. It has been since reissued on Leaning Trees Records out of Saskatoon. (http://leaningtreesrecords.tumblr.com/) In 2010 Caves preformed often in town with an old drum machine and guitar looped to make expanding pop tracks, recordings from this time will be released on LTR this summer. By 2011 Jeremy and Angus, friends from high school, joined to make it a full band. Blending Indie rock, pop punk and noise they put on exciting live shows for the kids in town. They have opened for some of their favorite touring bands such as Makeout VIdeotape, Eamon Mcgrath, Friendo and Sans Aids. As a solo act and in past projects Peter has shared the stage in Saskatoon with; Grimes, Pop Winds, Outdoor Miners, Shearing Pinx, Ahna, Uncle Bad Touch, The Moby Dicks, Needles//Pins, Women, Mt. Royal, Walter TV and Rat Tail. Plus many shows with local acts such as Shooting Guns, Feral Children, The Foggy Notions, Jeans Boots and Zombifyus.
