C-Bone Jones

Nearly 18 years ago on May 17, 1987 while headed home from UCLA's Annual Mardi Gras celebration, 15-year old star athlete, Christopher Dion Jones, nearly perished in a tragic car accident when struck by a drunk driver. The peace of his sleep was infiltrated by a real time nightmare...Resurrected from the wreckage and birthed through the windshield was the evolution of C-Bone Jones.

His face would be scarred for all of his life, but the world would be marked by his gift for eternity.

Prior to the crash that rendered him speechless for countless days, C-Bone Jones the only-child apple of his Momma's eyes and the manifestation of his Daddy's unfulfilled dreams of being a baseball prodigy, began writing and rapping during his early teens.

Following that night in May, the Junipero Serra high school sophomore still functioned as a scholar and dedicated athlete, yet internally he grasped in vain at the elusive moments between sleeping peacefully in that car and being detained by nurses from punching the doctor who callously flicked shards of glass from his eyes.

His cocoa colored skin and crimson-soaked white shirt ignited the desensitized physician's assumption that the patient was involved in LA's violent gang activity. Championed at his side, C-Bone's mother swiftly identified herself as a UCLA Medical Center employee and soon thereafter, Beverly Hills' top plastic surgeon was summonsed to the emergency room.

The miracles of medicine reconstructed his face with 100 plus stitches, his father's pop quizzes and back to business expectations led to his quick return to baseball, while the constant TLC and sage-filled wisdom of his churchgoing Grandmother mended his heart.

But what would restore the pieces of C-Bone's missing moments?

His parents, high school coaches, college scouts and major league teams assumed baseball would fill this void. However, even after being drafted during his senior year as a rookie with the Kansas City Royals, C-Bone Jones[C, for his first name. Bone, short for his baseball moniker, Bonafide], developed an affinity for writing and a passion for poetry. He was torn between an undaunted drive to create scripts, short stories and performance pieces and going to practice.

After suffering a severe ankle injury during his 2nd year in the minor league C-Bone traded in his bat for his PEN, which has since never left his grip.

During the following 4 years Jones studied film, television production and mass communication at Tennessee State University. There his life's work began to solidify its form and the idea of a full service production company was sparked. Following his emersion in student life, equipped with an arsenal of technical skills, raw talent and business savvy, the LA native returned home.

C-Bone Jones took a leap of faith and invested his pro ball earnings into the labor of his only child; Bread N Butter Productions, with the unique purpose of seeking and creating quality roles and appreciation for Black women in Hollywood.

Relentlessly following his heart, the pen-witty writer has authored an infinite number of poems, TV pilots, scripts and the acclaimed short story Friction. He writes, directs and produces short films and television shows including "Ha Ha Very Funny" that aired on California TV stations.

The ambitious entertainer has graced audiences across the United States sharing stages with entertainers including; Teena Marie, Mack 10, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Saul Williams and Kim Fields. As an open mic performer he was recognized by a prominent Los Angeles DJ and invited to appear as a weekly feature on LA's KJLH 102.3 FM. His work has been captured on Black Entertainment Television's Life Tracks; Russell Simmons's HBO Def Poetry Jam and recorded with hip hop trendsetters, Jurassic 5 and legendry producer X-Man.

Selling over 10,000 albums including Bread N Butter releases, Interview with a Smart Mouth, CB1J and Break Bread and Leimert Park Poet's Spreading Love-N-Spoken Word.

C-Bone Jones is working on a new LP, The Passion and stars on the April 2005 legendary Outlawz release, Outlawz 4 Life: 2005 A.P.

Convinced of his Divine purpose after his life was spared nearly 2 decades ago, C-Bone Jones dares not have the audacity to try to fill in the blanks of his lost moments, but believes that perhaps his works represent pieces of the puzzle.
