Cedar Teeth’s song “Winter” has the ting and the tang of modern folk, the rustic jive of bluegrass, and a slight generational touch. - MuzicNotez

"Cedar Teeth Live Review"

Individually and collectively, Cedar Teeth are musicians first and foremost.

They possess the rare combination of technical virtuosity, musical nuances and an entertaining stage presence. Their sound is creative, balanced- played and sung by incredible musical talent. - Pamplin Media Group

"Hoot - Album Review"

Cedar Teeth’s “Hoot” is full of rustic wild pastures. This is folk-influenced rock with bite. Songs tell small stories little snapshots from life. Remarkably earnest these are songs that come straight from the heart. At times the music is reminiscent of Modest Mouse’s raw, early work. Emotionally the songs range from the contented to the uneasy. Vocals confirm this with the ability to be intimate as well as screaming. Both worlds are explored with the same level of reverence.

“Locks” blasts the album off with a great deal of passion, with every flourish pitch-perfect from the inquisitive lyrics to the expressive harmonica. Turning down the volume a tad is the stripped down sound of “Boots”. With “Wednesday” they accurately capture the drudgery that is the midweek spirit, right down to the elongated horns and guitars becoming one. By far the highlight is the shouted stream of consciousness “Ugly Overnight”. Distortion works wonders in making a particularly hard-hitting, prickly, yet ultimately sweet track. This mood continues with the yearning tone of “Fragrance of Cool”. A certain level of chaos is embedded with the metallic clang of the guitars on “Simple Bend in Time”. Burning through its track time is the frantic work of “I Went Down”. A shift towards psychedelic territory occurs on “Behind the Sun”. Ending the album off is the intimate classically-inclined work of “Handy Dagger”.

“Hoot” shows a glimpse of what the future of folk can look like. - Skope Mag

"Cedar Teeth Hoot CD Review"

Portland, Oregon’s Cedar Teeth begin their Hoot with Locks, a track that showcases a blues-laden take on indie rock. The blend of harmonica, guitar, walking bass, and punchy drums will immediately draw listeners in as the vocals call comparisons to Neil Young. Boots is a close and cozy track, with introspective arrangements bolstering the effecting vocals. The production of Hoot allows these two disparate elements the ability to join together and give fans something cohesive to appreciate. The band gradually increases the speed of the composition without losing the down-home sound that has been cultivated to this point.

Fragrance of Cool is tremendously deep and detailed, with the sheer depth of composition ensuring that listeners will have to spin the composition a number of times before fully understanding each arrangement and interaction. There are hints of Jane’s Addiction and Blind Melon that can be heard here, but with just enough expansive and psychedelic-tinged guitar work to establish the song as wholly unique and new. Our favorite track on Hoot has to be Simple Bend in Time as it is able to simultaneously create a track that could garner play on alt-rock/collegiate radio stations while having a complexity similar to Gravity’s Rainbow.

The instrumental on the track turns, chugs along, and creates a palette for the vocals to properly shine while machinating to give listeners something sublimely satisfying. For more information about Cedar Teeth and their latest music, give their domain or social networking sites a spin. Hoot is the rare example of a disc that gets stronger with time and is able to balance between dense and detailed soundscapes and catchy tunes.

Bio

Cedar Teeth hails from the Cascade foothills, where the sound of saws cut through the Oregon woods and the lights of Portland set the western horizon aglow.  The music of Cedar Teeth is shaped by the experience of living in this margin dividing the wilderness from the city.  Between the five members of the band emerges a fusion of guitars, banjo and keys, propelled by bass and drums, while vocal harmonies weave through the music. Their songs are thus sweeping and immersive, at turns rustically melodic, lyrically raw and aggressive, as they explore the tensions of our time: love, confusion, progress, and corruption in a morally ambivalent landscape.

For those old enough, upon first hearing Cedar Teeth, it is difficult not to hear Levon Helm, Rick Danko and company, The Band, hollering from the grave. Indeed, imagery reflecting organic flesh and bone, mingling with gnarled old-growth roots music, is what this band is all about.

Cedar Teeth has performed throughout the NW and beyond, including sets at Sundance Film Festival, Whiskeytown Fesitval, and Summer Meltdown. In 2016, Cedar Teeth performed at venues like Seattle’s Tractor Tavern, Bend's Domino Room, Eugene's HiFi Music Hall, and Portland's Doug Fir, Star Theater and Mississippi Studios, alongside bands like Fruition, Hot Buttered Rum, Hillstomp, and Rabbit Wilde.  Songs from their debut album, Hoot, have been licensed for television programming on PBS and film soundtracks in America and Europe.  In 2016, Cedar Teeth recorded their follow up EP, Farewell to Green Mountain, with renowned producer Larry Crane at Jackpot Recording Studio, which is set for release in spring 2017.

A band in the truest sense, the songs of Cedar Teeth come together organically: like a jigsaw puzzle without the box, assembled by many hands.

Primary vocalist and acoustic guitarist, Dylan Martell, is the visceral yet vulnerable voice of Cedar Teeth.  Martell’s lyrics, composed of stark and paradoxical imagery, are the lens through which the music is focused.

Erin Corzine, whether on vocals, guitar, banjo, keyboard, percussion or trombone, is the rug that ties the room together.  A classically trained guitarist and composer in her own right, Corzine focuses each member's eclectic palette into a single sonic vision.

Rayson Gordon’s driving and melodic bass lines are the steady pulse at the heart of Cedar Teeth.  Founder and creative contrarian, Gordon is also the artistic voice of the band and its illustrator.

Self-taught guitarist Luke Precourt channels an idiosyncratic, genre defying sound; whether arcane or archaic, his distinct leads remain tethered to the ether. A life-long searcher, dreamer and pioneer, Precourt’s musical meditations weave through Cedar Teeth’s roots and boughs.  Precourt is honored to be endorsed by PRS Guitars!

Incendiary behind the drums, Adam Murray also supplies haunting gospel-tinged vocals.  Through live performance, Murray has proven to be a spirited guide and irreverent translator, endearing the audience to the band.  Murray is proud to be endorsed by Allegra Drums!

Crafting a sound that blends indie rock with rough and rustic American roots, the music of Cedar Teeth sounds familiar no matter the generation or frontier from which you hail.
