Bio

Celebrity was born on January 23rd, 1989 in
Philadelphia, Pa. He was raised by his father, Willie Grant, who
earned his living as a welder. He lived with his father until he was
16 years of age, at which point he moved in with his mother,Celeste
Palmer. While living with his mom, Michael felt concerned about their
financial situation. Not sure what to do, and how to go about doing
it, he became involved with the wrong crowd, and consequently began
selling drugs. Despite the negative pressure from his peers, Michael
performed well academically, though his behavior at school was
lacking.
The financial straits, broken family and the conflict between his
innate values and the input he received from his peers, resulted in
feelings of anger and frustration which Michael had difficulty
handling. Fortunately, he began to channel some of that stress in a
creative ways, and his talents for writing and performing music became
evident. Celeb developed a “silliness” about himself which helped him
“deal with” his anger.
He began rapping during the summer before his senior year in high
school. True to his sense of humor about himself, his rap name was
initially M. Bucks, derived from his name Michael, and his buck teeth.
Michael entered numerous rap contests, which he won every time. His
large size, coupled with his undeniable talents, drew attention at
school and in his neighborhood. All the new found attention made him
feel like a star, like a "celebrity. His name, Celebrity, naturally
distilled out of his daily life.
Celebrity began to intentionally capitalize on his status, and he
developed the slogan :
"Get your cameras out, The star is here"
After high school Celeb attended Penn State College, where he studied
welding technology, in an effort to emulate his father and in hopes of
improving their relationship. There, he was pursued by a rap group
based on his reputation in the community. The group performed in local
venues and produced an album which sold several thousand copies. An
unfortunate turn of events halted their momentum, and once again,
despite his good intentions, Celeb found himself amidst undesirable
influences. Celeb strayed from his music and toward trouble.
At that crucial point in his life, a friend introduced Celeb to his
current manager, Louis Gibson.
Mr. Gibson recognized Celeb’s raw talent, and plucked him out of his
precarious situation, moving him to Atlanta, Ga to pursue his dream of
becoming a successful rap (hip-hop?) artist. Mr. Gibson offered Celeb
what he needed most, at just the right time –
“He made me believe in myself!”
A young twenty- something, Celeb’s lyrics reach far beyond his
years…“lines just come so easily to me, I just hear a beat and
everything just flows”.
Celeb’s talent, sense of humor and confident swagger make him a
natural performer. His story is that of a good kid in bad
circumstances. He is working diligently to turn his rough beginning
into a happy ending, while being a positive role model for young
people along the way.
“I packed all my things and left everything behind. Now I am here in Atlanta,
pursuing a dream I feel can become
a reality.
