"CELESTIAL SON Saturn's Return (2015 review)"

"What would a band sound like if they were to blend grunge in the way of Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains ) with progressive metal in the way of Porcupine Tree or Tool? You don’t have to think about it anymore, just listen to the pretty excellent opus by Danish Celestial Son (formerly named Drone)!
It's with a short atmospheric intro that we start the album linking to the strong and technical strikings of Chris Bjørumslet (drums) and choir arrangements like the dou Staley / Cantrell. Celestial Son reveals their first song Nothing in Excess with a good rhythm working as a simple but great opener. YES, you think, because the following seems even more important.
In reality it is by listening to tracks like All I Ever Wanted, Not a Choice and The Pits we remain amazed by the vocal performances of Rasmus where he remains close to the great singers of the '90s grunge scene.
The instruments play complex structures, but still very catchy, defying ordinary time signatures while playing different tempos. This is exactly what they prove on tracks like Holy Cycle or the excellent The Flow of Creation (7.26 on the clock!) marking another of their biggest influence: Tool.
On this album Celestial Son propels us into their dark and mysterious universe (just by reading the title) in which we plunge willingly especially through tracks like Open Wound, Caress the Soul, Headlong or even the instrumental track The Fortress and the maciavélique piano of The Moon while proposing (a few) beefy riffs on Sea of Failure, Death Wish and in the outro of The Flow of Creation.
The album, however will for some be hard to hear in ‘one go’ cos it may seem repetitive at times. BUT remain positive, Danish Celestial Son has the merit of offering colorfull progressive grunge rock which in these days is becoming increasingly rare. 8/10." - Pavillon Webzine

"CELESTIAL SON Saturn's Return (2015 Review 2)"

Ready to impress.
When the band called themselves Drone, the Danes released a mini-EP ‘Misanthropia’, and a full-length album ‘Doors of Perception’. Now with their mix of Alice in Chains, Tool and Porcupine Tree the music is even more original and seductive, with frontman Rasmus Sjøgren demonstrating quality above average and so allowing his band and bandmates to close in on other great bands from the North, like Ghost Brigade or the less famous Rain Diary.
The arrangements on the tracks ‘Holy Cycle’ and ‘Sea of Failure’ reveal an original and personal approach to synth and percussion, while ‘Nothing in Excess’, ‘The Flow of Creation’ and ‘Death Wish’ are guided by a more direct and live-ish feel. ‘All I Ever Wanted’ is really the track to listen to if you want to remove any doubts about this bands quality.
They’re still young but have the cynicism and talent to give them instant popularity and combined with a great production and the artistic support by photographer Lasse Hoile (Steven Wilson) success could be just up ahead. (By Lorenzo Becciani.) - CLASSIX METAL & CLASSIX! Magazines

Bio

Rock band out of Denmark with more than 80 shows around the world behind them - among other the very prestigious SPOT-festival.

The band, who was formerly known as Drone, has had more than 200 plays on various Danish radio channels and played in the fnal of P3's CarriereCanon where the jury e.g. had this to say:

“Loaded precision from one of the tightest and most spectacular bands in Danish upcoming music. Surprisingly catchy.”

The band moves in the unexplored borderline between the progressive artrock of the seventies, the electronic and dirty industrial, complex hard rock and the melodic grunge of the nineties.
From the frst note played on the bands second album Saturn's Return it is very clear that Celestial Son is a band who've found it's sound. The band is led by singer, guitarist and songwriter Rasmus Sjøgren, who's able to unify complex songwriting with a raw and direct expression.

In September 2015 Saturn's Return was released through Target Records and even though the album is still very fresh and new, media around the world has already picked up the hype the album has produced.
E.g. Scandinavias biggest and oldest rock/metal magasin Metalized praised the album with a 8/10 review and wrote e.g. these words on the album:

“It’s the ability to take a great and catchy rock song to the next level and spice it up with an unexpected element that makes the listener catch on and crave for more.
Give Celestial Son a listen or fve. They deserve your attention.”

In conjunction with the release of album the band will publish five music videos. Three of them has already been released - one by the highly acclaimed director Lasse Hoile (Opeth, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree....) and two made in L.A. by the very talented director Karim Ghahwagi (Trentemøller, Efterklang, Kúra....).
