"NPR: Ceramic's Musical Stories"

Pennsylvania native John Schaeffer is a singer-songwriter who calls himself a musical storyteller. For his band Ceramic's self-titled debut CD, he blends pop/rock with a touch of country, jazz and experimental, moody and mellow sounds.

The EP was co-produced by guitarist and vocalist Scheaffer and Charles Newman. "People express themselves in many different ways - the most clear and concise way I know how to articulate how I feel is through music," Scheaffer says. "Songs are metaphors that color passionate rhetoric, whether I'm turning people on or deciphering it, I'm always engrossed in the exploratory aspect of sound and where it could take us."

"Ceramic, The Past Ain’t Far"

Ceramic is an eclectic group that seems to have no boundaries. From elements of blues, rock, country, psychedelic and acoustic rock/folk and Pop you get it all here! Then, add in Scheaffer’s unique vocal delivery and the use of numerous instruments makes for a great album. - Skope Magazine

"Variegated Lightness of College/Art Rock: Ceramic’s The Past Ain’t Far"

Ceramic has this way of drenching laid back rock in a beauty that’s a variegated lightness. At other times, like the Housemartins, Ceramic has a way of making dark and depressing thing sound bright and sunny (as on the jazzy lilt of “Who’s Gonna Guide the Night?” and its questions about jealousy).

Bio

Songwriter-performer John Scheaffer was influenced at a young age by live polka and gospel music played during family reunions in the coal regions of Pennsylvania. His new-found love of music carried on as he listened to his father’s vast collection of Country, Blues, R&B and Classic Rock & Roll records.

Scheaffer spent several years in LA collaborating and playing with various bands before settling in NYC and signing on with Mother West. The Past Ain't Far, Ceramic's first, full length record, produced by Scheaffer and Charles Newman, offers its listeners a resonant set of songs that move fluidly from alt. pop rock to rustic dream ballads to blues and rock dirges.
