Bio
In 1997 Kyle Hernandez began writing indie rock songs and formed the band Cudahy with his brother Chris Hernandez. In 1998 they released the "Millenia EP", but soon changed their name to The Cudahys, reflecting the close group dynamic that had since evolved. In 2003 they decided one last name change was in order and picked Certain Stars after a song by the band Superchunk. Forwarding the melodic indie rock tradition of Teenage Fanclub and Superchunk, Certain Stars' lyrics describe quiet alienation peppered with ironic wordplay, reminiscent of Guided by Voices or Pavement.
The band recently added Chris Voss on guitar and vocals, making it a quartet. While the majority of the songwriting and singing has been done by Kyle, guitarist Chris Hernandez and drummer Greg Hein have both contributed songs to the CD "Times Like These Call for Tambourines." Crowds in Milwaukee and Chicago have expressed amazement at how fun a Certain Stars show is. The band believes in giving a high-energy performance every time out.
Certain Stars' 13-song debut CD "Times Like These Call for Tambourines" is available now.
