Bio
The sound of music coming from a Spanish guitar serenaded this songbird into the world. Born as Melissa Figueroa, she was given the name Cha~Cha because whenever she hears a pulsating rhythm she immediately begins to dance. Coming from the hard streets of W. 25th projects of Cleveland, Ohio, this Latin star was surrounded by many family musicians and singers that taught her much about her Puerto Rican rhythmic roots,
Cha~Cha enrolled in Cleveland’s prestigious Karamu House at the age of 9. She began to hone her skills in singing, acting, and dancing. She continued to stay pro-active within her community providing her humanitarian efforts and musical performances to raise funds for various Community organizations and local political constituents. Becoming a community sought after vocalist, she expanded to surrounding states of VA, D.C., and Baltimore providing vocals for various artists and numerous projects.
In 2004, Cha~Cha wooed one of the most famous judging trios known in America: Randy, Paula, and Simon with guest judge L.L. Cool J. She went to Hollywood as one of Ohio’s top finalist for American Idol. Making it to the Top 24 Finalist on the show, Cha Cha began to tour nationally and internationally as an independent artist.
Cha~Cha signed an independent record deal with Visible Lyrics Record Company in 2007. The label released her first single “Click Grind”. The single was coupled with an instructional and music video which opened the door to a worldwide fan base gaining over 300,000. Her anticipated debut album “Euphoria” came out with a smash! Recording songs with Multi-Platinum & Grammy award-winning producer "Yonny" who's worked with various artists such as Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, Missy Elliott, and Lil’ Wayne. After releasing her debut album in 2009, Cha~Cha kept her fans entertained for years to come.
Cha~Cha and her label decided in 2014 to take her talents into the Latin Funk & Soul arena. She moved her career efforts to the L.A. and Harbor City areas of California. It was there that Cha~Cha connected with 5x Grammy award winning Producer-Engineer “Devine Evans” (Jennifer Lopez, Pharell, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and more ) on various music concepts and projects. Devine says, "If I had to describe Cha~Cha's vocal ability I would have to say she is the Latin Chaka Khan." Building not only her musical base, this Latina also built her community service efforts as she worked behind the scenes as a hidden gem. In that same circuit, she has also landed her services even towards voiceover acting--a new platform she finds refreshing & exciting. "I enjoy expanding my vocals to many platforms and genres" she claims.
In 2018, Visible Lyrics Record Company in a conglomerate effort with ARCH 1 Entertainment CEO Howard Scott Jr. ( son of the legendary founder and original lead member of the band known as “WAR”) take charge in what is going to be the next big thing. Cha~Cha is ready to claim the title as Queen of Latin Funk-Soul.
