"All Music Guide EP Review"

"My Project: Blue keeps the string of excellent pop bands from Vancouver alive. Their debut on Boompa is a five-song gem produced by the Salteens' Scott Walker with a light touch and an adventurous ear. He and the band create a hermetically sealed retro pop world of creaky old synths, pianos, organs, bells, and perfect layers of electric and acoustic guitars, then plug in catchy and gently energetic tunes like "Messed Up in the Heart," "Control of Me," and "These Re-Occuring Nightmares" coming up with some very fine indie pop in the process. (Rating: 4 out of 5)" - All Music Guide

"Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from...Vancouver"

If My Project: Blue frontman Chad Blue sounded any more like David Bowie, he'd have to start wearing facepaint and pretending to be an alien (followed, of course, by hanging around Berlin with this generation's version of Iggy Pop and starting a slow descent into mediocrity). His band's debut EP is full of Bowie-isms, from Blue's vocals (which have a hint of English spoken-word to them) to the futuristic sounds that pop up in each of the five songs.

Then again, given the quality of Bowie's early '70s output, it seems silly to dismiss a band who can pull off that sound so well. "The Boy Who Who Wore Red", for example, sounds majestic with its steady, marching-time beat and the "la la la"s provided by bandmates Jill Southern and Ben Frey (along with other studio friends) provide beatiful "la la la"s. Similarly, "Control of Me" is like "Rebel Rebel"'s younger, punkier brother, and "Consume" is a six-minute space-opera, taking advantage of its running length to create a perfect retro-futuristic feel. It's all an engaging, enjoyable listen, and suggests that My Project: Blue are definitely a band to watch for.

"Best Pop EP of 2005. Full Stop."

Sunsocialists worldwide. Unite. Skinny staring scooterdrivers, caféphilosophers, lovers of Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout, Scott Walker and melodramatic oooooo so catchy pop. Hello! THE BEST POP EP OF 2005 IS HERE! We are hooked. Seduced. Mesmerized. A new boss is in town. My Project: Blue. A cinematic mesh of guitar and keyboards interlaced with raspy, off-kilter vocals, My Project: Blue's long-awaited debut EP brings to life a new wave acoustic project that will steal your heart with songs of love, angst and heartache. Chad Blue (guitar/vocals), Jill Southern (guitar/synth/vocals) and Ben Frey (drums), have been steadily gaining a devoted following all along the west coast. Against a backdrop of grainy super8 footage of old home movies, My Project: Blue's live performance has been seducing new fans with every show since 2001.

The My Project: Blue EP is five exhilarating, filler-free introductory tracks to a keenly focused artistic vision and ambition. With a synth-obscured landscape awash in shimmering guitars and throbbing percussion, the now-signature sound of My Project: Blue is steadily anchored by the immediacy of Chad Blue's Thom-Yorke inspired vocal style - already critically tagged as the Canadian band to watch for in 2006. Dotshop.se is so so proud to welcome you to the world of the Boompa and My Project: Blue.

Bio

Shedding his moniker, "My Project: blue" and returning to Vancouver from living in Berlin, Germany; Chad blue is back preparing for his next release under Unfamiliar Records. Garnering much interest from his self titled debut release "my project: blue"; "We are in love! Hello! THE BEST POP EP OF 2005 IS HERE!" Dotshop.se (sweden), "My Project: Blue keeps the string of excellent pop bands from Vancouver alive. 4/5" All Music Guide, and "Wonderful melodic sound - [one] of the best bands around."
THE WESTENDER. This time around with blue writing, producing, and recording his music has taken on more of a rough yet melodic sense. With influences that very from Bowie to Etta James to Japan, blue creates an epic sound solidified with a very 60s doo-wop backbeat!
