Presently based in Halifax, Tetford has picked up considerable airplay on CBC stations in the Maritimes since releasing his debut album BETWEEN US late last year. He wrote all 12 tunes on the freshman disc, which was recorded over an 18-month period with the help of nearly a dozen session players. Virtually everything here will work perfectly for us. Chad Tetford, songwriter/singer from Cape Breton based in Halifax, released his new CD entitled, BETWEEN US, in late 2007. Chad is a folk/rock singer and he has written all 12 songs on this CD, and has written enough of songs for his second CD as well. He has been writing songs for years and this CD certainly shows what kind of a writer he is, extremely brilliant writing. Chad voice is remarkable and gives all on this project.
The CD was recorded at Lakewind Sound Studios and produced by Fred Lavery. Musicians who helped Chad with the CD were: Joe Waye Jr.-Marlyn MacDonald-Stephen Muise-Darren Gallop-Brian Talbot-Bruce Timmins-Shane Timmins-Clare Fry-Ciaran MacGillivray-Fiona MacGillivray-Fred Lavery and Chad Tetford.
The CD jacket contains all words to Chad's written songs and shows the date he wrote each song. Chad Tetford can clearly be added to the growing list of east coast artists who have the ability to weave a great story into song; with Between Us, he pulls together a series of originals spanning 4 years of writing; his sound is roots personified; distinctive in his delivery; this album is a pleasure straight from the opening chords.
Things get off to an acoustically pleasant start with Kickin’ Tiny Stones, with its unique lyrical arrangement, that tells the listener they are in for something great if this is any indication. But I Never Did continues Tetford’s ability to take you as close to the origins of the spark that lit the song as possible. Between Us, certainly one of the most vibrant songs on the album, great ode to friendship, with the most magnificent instrumental accompaniment, which drives the vocals for a song not to be forgotten. California Morning is just plain sweet.
Struggling musicians or anyone putting in long hours just to make a living will surely relate to It Wasn’t You, a whimsical look at life in the big city for a lot of folks trying to make a go of it. I Don’t Mind At All basically talks about the good and the bad times of any relationships, everything’s not always perfect and it’s the give and take that keeps people together.
Take an arrangement by Allister MacGillivray, the haunting background vocals and musical accompaniment of the Cottars, and a great Chad Tetford tale of working and raising a family on the east coast and call it Nothing Here Will Grow ; if ever I have heard a beautifully mastered collaboration, this one is it. A stand out among a stellar songlist.
If these are but a few of the gems tucked away in Tetford’s catalogue, we can all look forward to much more in the future. Definitely a great debut!

Chad Tetford is a songwriter/singer from Mira, Nova Scotia.
He has been singing and writing for as long as he remembers.
Years ago while living in Cape Breton he and a group of friends started playing pubs in the local area and this was the starting point for Chad. Growing up he got to witness first hand the talent of Cape Breton artists. Local boys like Gordie Sampson, Bruce Guthro, Green Eggs and Jam, Real World, and Natalie Mac Master where playing all over the Island.
His debut album "Between Us" was recorded by Mike Sheppard at Lakewind Studio.
Freddy Lavery produced and many of Chad’s neighbors and friends pitched in and played. Chad’s uncle Bruce and Shane Timmins were instrumental in providing the support he needed to get this project off the ground. His songs are infused with a little Country, Pop, Rock and Celtic from his Cape Breton roots.
In a Press release written by Dan MacDonald of the Cape Breton Post, Dan writes, "Tetford's writing reminds me of early James Taylor or even Gordie Sampson and a dozen or so other influences that make the distinctive Tetford sound".
He has been featured on various radio stations on the East Coast. His song "California Morning" has been receiving radio play on CBC throughout Canada. CM hit number one on the popular internet radio show eastcoastcountdown. He performs regularly in Halifax, Cape Breton and around the Maritime's. He performs solo, duo as well as in a trio.
