In 2013, Pittsburgh Hip-Hop artist Tay Bey had decided that he wanted to create a family based/organic collective, solely focused on creating great music and feuled off comradary. In 2014, Co-CEO, producer and emcee (Ares Knight) had been in talks with Bey centered around relocating to his home city and embarking on this joint venture. After Knight made his way back to the city of Pittsburgh,Pa, two other members were added and the ever so usual shuffle occurred as normal with multi-member units. Two members had withdrawn in it's infancy, leaving Tay Bey and Knight in a vulnerable state. After periods of frustration and feelings of abandonment, the universe delivered an answer to their prayers. The answer came in the form of the talented and raw emcee, (Jackboi Ski) who had begun to solidify a lane through his gritty street tales and testimonies. Not long after Ski, producer and fellow emcee (Juice) had joined the collaborative only a year removed from entertaining the prospect of joining the crew. The growth for ChainGang was no where near complete however. The year 2016 had seen the inclusion of two neo-soul/R&B; vocalists in the form of the crew's youngest yet divinely gifted member (Raxi Burgh) and an experienced vocalist/multi-instrumentalist by the name of Shawna Roxanne. Together, it had been placed in the minds of Tay Bey and Ares Knight that the collective was at the healthiest point it had ever been. "CGMC" stands for ChainGang Music Collaborative and with the roster, it has truly become a diverse collective and surpassed the original vision in full.
