"Chainwave - Wrap Me Up"

Having played together in previous bands, singer-guitarist Ian Jacobs and drummer Michelle Feliciano came to Chainwave with a solid musical understanding. The Brooklyn band has only been around since the fall of 2012, but already, it’s got a clear-cut sound — one that’s recognizable, sure, but potent all the same.

The first thing you hear on ‘Wrap Me Up,’ the duo’s latest single and today’s free MP3 download, is the gloriously grimy fuzz — a dirty, surfy, swim-at-your-own-risk churn reminiscent of the Jesus and Mary Chain and modern disciples the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Then the melody kicks in, and Jacobs and Feliciano show why they’re more than just a couple of noiseniks with access to a distortion pedal. Supremely hummable, the tune serves a fine preview of their debut full-length, due out sometime this summer.

“Love takes hold and sometimes won’t let go,” the band tells Diffuser.fm, explaining the sentiment behind the track. “Sometimes.”

"Chainwave"

Chainwave is a duo composed by a musical blood brother and sister if you will. Ian Jacobs (vocals/guitar) and Michelle Feliciano (vocals/drums) craft their own brand of dark, melodic rock and roll, infusing it with surf undertones and psychedelia, casually referencing The Pixies' catchy embers, Deerhunter's indie dreamscapes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Clubs' chugging earthen grooves. Check out their new single "Wrap Me Up". - The Deli Magazine

"Chainwave - Up at Night"

Chainwave came to life in the fall of 2012, formed by the songwriting duo of Ian Jacobs (vocals/guitar) and Michelle Feliciano (drums/vocals). After years of playing in multiple other Brooklyn and New York City-based projects, Jacobs and Feliciano dived head first into this band with a clear understanding and a solid foundation. The outcome is a melodic, fuzzy, surf-y, swim-at-your-own-risk churn that at times is reminiscent of Ty Segall, The Pixies, or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Chainwave is angular indie with energy; they aim to drive melodies through the most gripping parts of your musical scenery. A full length album will be released in the summer of 2013. - Verbicide Magazine

"CMJ 2012 - "Ones to Watch""

You can catch Chainwave at Littlefield at 7pm. Expect intricate guitar melodies spanning multiple octaves and precisely placed percussions coupled with organic and visceral vocals shared between Ian Jacobs and his partner in crime Michelle Feliciano. It wont take you long to see why (they) have courted comparisons to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Black Keys. When The Deli magazine asked this Brooklyn based duo about their hopes for the future, they replied “we wanna play MSG by the end of this week”. They clearly have high hopes and so do we. - Secret Sound Shop

"Chainwave: Northside Picks"

I think of slow-mo motorcycle races, particularly bad ass and could very well be incorporated beneficially with burning rubber. Their style is classic New York City: tight leather; hard heel-kicking boots; shrill guitars; and a lo-fi punk/traditional rock and roll vibe. Singer and guitarist, Ian Jacobs, gets his chops from New York’s Jon Spencer (Heavy Trash, The Jon Spencer Blues Expelsion), crooning like an especially nasally and drawling Elvis. But his guitar is what gives them their signature swaggerific raunch. Live, he powers away with a few tuned-in bass strings low on his guitar, while at the same time ripping into riffs on the higher, regular guitar strings. With Michelle Feliciano’s heavy bumping on the skins, the results are very Black Keys esq: loaded on rhythm and an occasional quick, high note filler at the breaks. And while it is traditional rock with very simple chord progressions, the music bleeds with reverb and power. You can hear the tubes chugging with electricity with Jacobs’ riffs.

They kick off the Northside Festival early on Thursday evening, 5:30 ish, at Spike Hill. - Knocks From The Underground

"Best of the Uknown SXSW bands"

The band embodied the very soul of my favorite kind of music: plain and simple old-school rock. The kind of sounds that never made it in the mainstream past the 60's. The Wicked Tomorrow takes a page out of the Rolling Stones’ book but seems to take a much more eerie route, but this fact makes them stand out and gives them their edge. The band is made up of Ian Jacobs (Guitar/Vocals) and Michelle Feliciano (Drums/Vocals). The chemistry of the two band members is not as dark and mysterious as their Myspace/Facebook photos would lead you to believe; I’d say they come off more young and fun. - Lost in Reviews

"Fearsome he-she twosome"

Ian Jacobs (guitar) and Michelle Feliciano (drums) of the Wicked Tomorrow cite their top three influences as Life and Death, Lover’s Quarrels and Making Up, thereby aligning themselves with themes of existence and romantic relationships rather than, say, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or the White Stripes. This bears out in their un-derivative, darkly dreamy kind of rock. Besides showing off Jacobs' deft, jagged strumming, and Feliciano's sticks o' fury, songs like “Frenemy” get your blood boiling by a slow-build of sonic layers and intensity, until the two are screaming at each other: "You think you are my friend. But I wanna kill you." They'll be making friends at Pianos tonight like there's no tomorrow. - Unveiled Arts

"Getting To Know The Wicked Tomorrow"

Garage-y indie rock duo The Wicked Tomorrow is to NYC what the redheaded twosome White Mystery is to Chicago. Both bands bring a Yeah Yeah Yeahs type showmanship with sludgy, gritty rock n’ roll that bangs, whines and seriously rules. While, true to their name, The Wicked Tomorrow has an ounce of something a little darker and more sinister to their rock, we can see the two bands doing very well should they ever team up to take over the world with garage rock one city at a time. "The Wicked Tomorrow CD Release"

The Wicked Tomorrow is a new Brooklyn based duo that plays a dark brand of bold and melodically driven rock music. The band consists of Ian Jacobs (guitar/vocals) and MIchelle Feliciano (drums/vocals). The two have been making music together for the last 4 years in various other settings but it wasn't until recently that they decided to start The Wicked Tomorrow as a duo. They debuted their songs at SXSW and The Northside Festival in 2010 and since then their single "Frenemy" has created some buzz in the NYC scene. That song and more are present on the 5-song EP that The Wicked Tomorrow will be releasing @ Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn on Friday, September 24th. - The Deli Magazine

"The Wicked Tomorrow"

“Bam!” goes The Wicked Tomorrow and their self-titled, recently released EP. This duo brings a hybridized mix of Velvet Underground tension and a White Stripes-like clash and bang to their newly acquired table. That said, of course there is a lovely “fuck off” element present in much of the mere five songs that make up the EP. For example, the opener, “Frenemy,” sets the tone in its chorus with “I wanna kill you” acting the part of a friendly welcome. While this is potentially off-putting, it’s the male/female vocal ratio of Ian Jacobs and Michelle Feliciano that provides the hook to keep ‘em coming, and when you get down to brass tacks it’s a perfect pairing.

Given the premature age of the musical duo (after only just debuting at SXSW this past spring) I think that a lot can be expected from this group in terms of advancement, although there’s really not a whole lot to improve upon now (at least, in terms of good ‘ol rocking and rolling). - Verbicide Magazine
