Still working on that hot first release.

Musical artist and Ph.D. in Psychology, Chanda M, lives in her own cinematic electro-pop universe. Her passion for music permeates her scientific works, which include articles on the neurochemistry of music published under the name Mona Lisa Chanda. Under the moniker Chanda M, she creates music that is highly melodic, lyrical and infused with electro-ambient sounds. Her bewitching vocal style has often been compared to that of Kate Bush, St. Vincent, Bat For Lashes and Bjork

Chanda M's journey is filled with delicious paradoxes that fuel her creativity. Born in Northern Quebec, this daughter of a German mother and East Indian father embodies a unique mélange of cultural influences. She is also a Ph.D. in Psychology practicing her first love—music and poetry. Driven by this dual passion for music and sciences, she worked as a researcher and published papers on the neurochemistry of music together with New York Times best-selling author Dr. Daniel J. Levitin (This is Your Brain On Music, The World In Six Songs).

As a trained classical and jazz singer, Chanda M has performed on many local stages (e.g. House Of Jazz, Upstairs Bar & Grill, Just For Laughs Festival) and collaborated with Juno Award-winning producer, Rob Heaney (Cirque du Soleil, Patrick Watson). In collaboration with Heaney, she recorded the 2013 indie folk rock EP Tip of My Tongue under the name Mona Lissa & The Brink. Critics praised the EP, comparing it to Sarah Brightman’s acclaimed 1993 album “Dive”.

In winter 2015, she began recording new original material in collaboration with producers Raphael Rosenwald (early collaborator of The Dears and Arcade Fire) and Michael Rien of Primal Urge Productions in Montreal. Chanda M launched the "neo-noir" music video Ghostwriter on October 14, 2016 as a lead up to her debut EP, Icons of Dreams, an exploration of our longing for love and connection in a fragmented modern world. The Icons of Dreams EP was launched on November 12th at La Vitrola in Montreal and on November 19th at Live On Elgin in Ottawa.

Chanda M's music video and EP launch has garnered positive reactions from the press, including live interviews and performances on CIBL 101,5 FM's very popular Emission Le Retour and CKCU Radio Ottawa. Instead of taking a break from the action, this prolific artist is currently planning the release of her next music video in 2017! Stay tuned for more news and events.

“I really enjoy her honest songwriting. She presents a very modern view of love.”
—Midnight Poutine

"[Her] voice is controlled and haunting… but in this case, there’s an intimate (at times, overtly sexual) undertone in the music and lyrics that would make a shy listener blush.”
—Bucketlist Music Reviews

"While the Icons of Dreams EP is her debut, the sharp electronics will make you feel like you're traversing through auditory ether. It shows a beauty and composure you'd normally hear from a seasoned performer, a certain maturity that you don't normally expect from a debut."
—Forget The Box

"The excellent control of Chanda M's voice does not erase the emotion that is present. Head voice certainly, but we feel the heart."
—Geneviève Plante, YULorama

"[The song] Cosmic Rapture captures Chanda M's angelic voice in a lullaby that will send you on a trip to heaven."
—The Concordian
