"Changingnames"

Melodic punk with a kick! I have to admitt, when I first gave this cd a listen, I didn't immediately appreciate it. It wasn't until I was able to really sit down and give it my full attention that I realized how amazing it is. This Southern California band is lead with ear-pleasing female vox curteousy of Shannon Dulawan. A definite family affair, the band also includes Shannon's husband Todd on guitar, Todd's brother (I think!) Geoff on drums and close friend Ryan on bass. For all those people that dislike female vocalists, I would say to give this band a listen. Shannon's voice is smooth, harmonic and has a quality that will completely hook you in. The sleek instrumentals compliment the vocals perfectly and after several line-up changes in the band, I say they have certainly struck the right mix with the current members.

The majority of the songs are fast-paced, energetic and have an addictive quality. "Tear it Down", "The List", "Unsatisfied" and "Trenchcoat" were among my favorites and had me practically moshing in my chair. There are a few slower, slightly mellow songs to give the album some variety. All in all, this was defintely the kind of cd you could listen to several times in a row without getting bored. The band's fresh guitar hooks, pulsating drums, catchy bass lines and Shannon's stunning voice will certainly win you over!

Bio

Changingnames is a local San Diego rock band that has been pushing the limits of their own abilities since 1998. A definite family affair, the band consists of husband and wife Shannon and Todd, along with their brother Geoff and very close friend Ryan. The band draws on many artists and genres for influence and inspiration, but perhaps the most on melodic hard rock acts such as Tilt, Tracy Bonham, Evanescence and the like. The mission of Changingnames has been the same since inception...... to create music free from the confines of commercial music structures and genre sterotypes. The band has played countless shows in many of San Diego's fine venues including The Casbah, Canes Bar & Grill, and Dreamstreet. Changingnames has also produced 2 full length cd's on thier own independent label called Fort Records, a name arising from the band's very peculiar method of tracking instruments inside of a "tent-like" structure in the comforts of their home studio. The band has been working tirelessly on their 3rd full length cd which is due out in December of 2005. Be on the lookout
