Give You Away

Written By: Chantal Soudant

"Give You Away"

Intro: (Father speaks)
‘Used to call you my Morning Star
you’d snuggle up in our bed
in your flannel PJ’s, those crazy curls on your head
And as you lay there sleeping,
I’d close my eyes and pray
God, help me... help me show her the way…"

Verse 1: (Father sings)
You held my fingers when you learned to walk, and each time you got stuck
I taught you, even when you fall
You gotta find a way to get back up and…
I ran beside you on that little pink bike
The day those training wheels were gone
I taught you, when you get knocked down
you gotta find a way to get back on.

Pre-chorus:
I Wanted to shield you from life’s pain,
But I just held you while you cried
I wanted to clip your little wings
But I had to let you fly, so…

Chorus: (father)
I gave you love
I gave you strength
I gave you answers to your questions
But the choice was yours to make
I gave you faith
Gave you advice
I gave you wisdom, Gave you courage
Oh, I gave you life
But if there’s just one, oh just one thing
I gave to you, I pray…
That I gave you, I gave you…
A Way

Verse 2: (Daughter sings)
You were there when I fell in love
And when my broken heart just wouldn’t mend
You taught me, even when it hurts
You gotta find a way to love again, and
I remember graduation day
You said, "don’t stop dreamin’"
Everytime I felt like giving up,
" I had to find a way to keep believin’"

Pre-Chorus: Everytime I lost my way, I'd‘call you on the phone, and somehow, you'd always help me, find a way back home, cuz'...

Chorus: (daughter)
You gave me love
You gave me strength
You gave me answers to my questions
But the choice was mine to make
You gave me faith
Gave me advice
You gave me wisdom
Gave me courage
Oh, you gave me life
But, if there’s just one, oh just one thing
You gave to me, I’d say
That you gave me, you always gave me…
A way

Bridge: (father)
I'll still be right beside you walking down that isle
My "Morningstar"
(spoken) Such a beautiful bride

Pre-chorus:
(Dad) You’ll always be my little girl
(Daughter) Oh, Dad! I’m not a kid.
(Dad) I would have given you the world
(Daughter) But Dad, you did
(Dad) Then there’s just one, just one thing
To give you on this day
I give you, I give you…
Away

Modulate to Chorus:
(Dad) I gave you love
(Daughter) You gave me love
(Dad) I gave you strength
(Daughter) You gave me strength
(Dad) I gave you answers to your questions
(Daughter) But the choice was mine to make
(Dad) I gave you faith
(Daughter) You gave me faith
(Dad) Gave you advice
(Daughter) Such great advice!
(Dad) You gave me wisdom
(Daughter) Gave me courage
(TOGETHER) Oh you gave me life
(Dad) So there’s just one
(Daughter) Just one thing
(Dad) To give you on this day
(Dad) I give you
(Daughter) You always gave me
(TOGETHER) "Away"/"A Way"

I'll Be The First

Written By: Chantal Soudant

I’LL BE THE FIRST

Verse 1:
I may be young, but I’m old enough to see the world around and wonder why
Some will succeed, because someone believed
But others fail before they even try
I want to live in a world, where everyone has a chance to learn, to dream, to fly

Chorus A:
So I’ll be the first of my family
I’ll be the first of my friends
I’ll be the first of my generation
I’ll be the first, because I can
I know I make my tomorrow
I have a dream I will achieve
So I’ll be the first (I’ll be the first)
‘cuz you were the first to believe in me

Verse 2: (spoken)
*any speech, mission statement, etc. can be inserted here to personalize song for event/organization*
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are we not to be?
Our playing small doesn't serve the world.
We are all meant to shine,
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone of us!”
Repeat Chorus A:

Bridge:
I have this chance to be all that I can be
I know that one can make the difference
And it starts with me, so…

Chorus B:
*any “shout-outs” can be inserted here to personalize song for event/organization*
I’ll be the first “to be a teacher!”
I’ll be the first “to get my MBA!”
I’ll be the first “to be a professional athlete!”
I’ll be the first “female president of the USA!”

I’ll be the first “to be an artist!”
I’ll be the first “to cure a disease!”
I’ll be the first “to feed the hungry”
I’ll be the first “to create world peace”

We know we make our tomorrow
We have a dream we will achieve
So we’ll be the first (we’ll be the first)
‘cuz you were the first to believe… in me

Still Wanna Believe

Written By: Chantal Soudant

I STILL WANNA BELIEVE

Verse 1:
Never thought I’d say this but
I think the hope has faded, feeling jaded,
Thought I would have made it by now
Always optimistic,
You can do it, push on through it,
Guess I never knew it, how life can get you down
Then just when I think I can’t get any stronger
The end of my rope seems to get a little bit longer

Chorus:
I still wanna believe in me and you
That the good guys win, that dreams come true
That there’s good in everyone, if we take the time to see
I still wanna believe a heart can mend
That love is true, that God will send
Someone just for me…
I still wanna believe!! (na-na-na)
I still wanna believe!! (na-na-na)

Verse 2:
Never thought I’d be here
Still in limbo, watching him go, thinking “Oh no”, here we go again
But even in the losing,
There’s a lesson, keeps you guessin’,
If the blessin’ is just around the bend
Then just when I think I can’t take another day,
I cling to my hope, and you cant take that away, cuz… (chorus)

Bridge:
I start and I stall and I climb and I fall
But I’ll never stop giving it all, ‘cause… (chorus)

No Ordinary Girl

Written By: Chantal Soudant

NO ORDINARY GIRL

Verse 1:
There are days when I feel good
I know that I could do anything I choose
But other days I just give up, I’ll never live up
I feel lost and confused
Some days I look in the mirror, a little clearer
And I like just what I see
But other days things are hazy, I know it’s crazy
But I wish I wasn’t me
So everytime that I think I’m not enough
‘Cuz I don’t compare to someone else
I tell myself…
I’m no ordinary girl

Chorus:
I’m no ordinary girl, I am so Uniquely Me!
I have only just begun to be all I’m here to be
Give me a chance, I’ll make you proud
Give me a voice, I’ll shout out loud to all the world…
Hey! I’m no ordinary girl!

Verse 2:
There are days when I wake up, I’ve got no make up
And my hair’s an awful mess
Put on my jeans and my flip-flops, I’m feelin’ tip-top
It doesn’t matter how I dress
But other days I just stand there, wonder what to wear
But nothing fits just right
‘Cuz how I look on the outside, you know it won’t hide
The way I feel inside
So when there’s someone else I’d rather be
I remind myself that there is no one quite like me…
‘Cuz I’m no ordinary girl

Bridge: HERE I AM… (3x)

Love Me Like Your BBQ

Written By: Chantal Soudant/Dave Smith

LOVE ME LIKE YOUR BBQ

Verse 1:
When you brought her home last night
I knew I was in trouble
Cuz I never saw you act that way before
Oohin’ and a-ahhin’
Crowin’ and a-cawin’
Did ya have to lay her out there on the floor?

You couldn’t wait til I was gone
You had to turn her on
To see if she was all that you desire
I could almost hear her say
As you fanned her little flame
C’mon baby light my fire!

Chorus:
Red hot, I’m not givin up without a fight
That back door, tin whore aint gonna get you tonight
Baby if you turned me on like that
I’d burn the whole night through if you’d just
Love me like your BBQ

Verse 1:
Now all yer little buddies
wanna come and check her out
“Hot Damn, nice big rack!”
Wishin and a-prayin
Some of them were sayin
“Man! The one I got at home don’t look like that”

So little Miss Weber thinks
She’s got it goin on
Been known to make a grown man cry
But listen up sister
I been known to raise a blister
I can grill, saute, bake, and deep fry!

Bridge:
C’mon baby I’m not jokin
You and me let’s get things smoking
Kissin, huggin, lovin, neckin
Out there on that redwood deckin
“OW!-hssssss… who’s cookin now?”

Refrain-out:
Like your BBQ, get me hot
Like your BBQ, uh, uh, ssssss…

DEFIANT!

Written By: Chantal

“DEFIANT!”

Verse 1:
Watch out!
One day you’re gonna make a fool out of you
You think you’re oh, so important but ya don’t have a clue
Well, I’m not ever gonna let you hypnotize me with your doubt
Because I’ve got dreams and I’m gonna live ‘em
Cuz you can’t keep this girl down

I hear you gossip and look my way
As if you’re so above me
But don’t you know that what I think matters more
Than what you’re thinking of me. YA!

Chorus:
Cuz I’m defiant, rebellious,
I’m rockin the boat!
I’m impossible, unstoppable
Watch me go!
I won’t compromise and I’ll never give in
To who you think I’ve got to be to fit in
So don’t you dare tell me to try it!
I’ll defy it!

Verse 2:
Watch out!
One day I’m gonna make something of my life
And when you see me, you’ll say, “Oh gee!, I really wish I’d done things right”
Because, one day, you’re gonna pay for all the stupid things you’ve done
But I know each choice I make today will define who I become

Cuz life ain’t no film or fairytale, no lucky four leaf clover
So if you’re not aboard, you better step aside
Or you just might get run over1 YA! (to chorus)

Bridge: (done in “cheer style” similar to Gwen Stefani’s “B-A-N-A-N-A-S”)
Be Defiant!
B-E Defiant!
B-E D-E-F-I-A-N-T
Be Defiant! With a capital “D”!

This One's For The Mama's

Written By: Chantal/Jaime

THIS ONE’S FOR THE MAMA’S

Verse 1:
She never sleeps on a Friday night
Fool her once, but it won’t happen twice
If you could count all the money she sent
And if she ever knew just where it all went
She’d say she’d do it all again…

Chorus:
So this one’s for the mama’s, the teachers
The drop it all, be there when ya need her
For the lovers, the believers
The you can do it, I’m your fan, cheerleaders
Who else is ever gonna love you that much?
‘cept Mama’s

Verse 2:
She’ll sacrifice, she’ll compromise
She’ll worry every minute for the rest of her life
You know Mama had dreams of her own
But that look on her face when the kids come home
And you know, she’d do it all again

Chorus:
So this one’s for the mama’s, the teachers
The drop it all, be there when ya need her
For the lovers, the believers
The you can do it, I’m your fan, cheerleaders
Who else is ever gonna love you that much?
‘cept Mama’s

The drop it all, be there when ya need her
The you can do it, I’m your fan, cheerleaders
Who else is ever gonna love you that much?
‘cept Mama, Mama, Mama…

Look Ma

Written By: Chantal

LOOK MA

Verse 1:
From bottle to Gerber and High chair to booster
Tantrums and terrible two’s
From diapers to pull-ups and Slip-on’s to Lace-up’s
Loop, loop, pull it through
On that first day of school, I’m not sure who cried more when I got on that bus
Look Ma! I’s all growed up

From Barbies to make-up and Kisses to break-up’s
My first school dance
From dresses to blue jeans and sweet girl to pre-teen
I stopped holding your hand
And on the last day of school in my cap and my gown, you cried but tried to look tough
Look Ma! I’s all growed up

Chorus:
I’s all growed up now mama
You done good
I’s all growed up now mama
Doin’ what a good girl should
And with each year that passes
More and more I see
That little girl in me

Verse3:
Engagements to showers and Bridesmaids to flowers
That walk down the isle
Swing sets and See-saws, now I see what you saw in my daughter's eyes
each time she looks up and calls out to me with unconditional love, and says...
Look Ma! I’s all growed up

I’s all growed up now mama
You done good
I’s all growed up now mama
Doin’ what a good girl should
And with each year that passes
More and more I see
That little girl in me

Tag/Outro:
‘Cause now it’s…
Bottle to Gerber and High chair to booster
Tantrums and terrible two’s
Diapers to pull-ups and Slip-on’s to Lace-up’s
Loop, loop, pull it through
On that first day of school I’m not sure who cried more when she got on that bus…
Look Ma! I’s all growed up

From Where I Stand

Written By: Chantal/LaStrapes

FROM WHERE I STAND

Verse 1:
Falling, I fell a thousand times but this
Calling, just echoed in my mind
Breaking from the weight of all my dreams
Staking my whole life on this one thing
For so long you were my eyes
But now I finally realize

Chorus:
From where I stand
Now I can see
The me I am
That you knew I could be
I didn't always believe
But now I know I can
when I see you...
From where I stand.

Praying to somehow find my way,
but you kept
Saying that there would come a day
So I held on, I saw it through
and now I wish that you
could see the view

Chorus:
From where I stand
Now I can see
The me I am
That you knew I could be
I didn't always believe
But now I know I can
when I see you...

Bridge:
From where I stand
Now it all seems clear
That every disappointment
Every single tear
Has led me to this moment
Somehow you always knew
And now I'm here because of you...

Chorus:
From where I stand
Now I can see
The me I am
That you knew I could be
I didn't always believe
But now I know I can
when I see you...
From where I stand.

Pink Ribbons!

Written By: Chantal

PINK RIBBONS
(Written in honor of Alice Crisci's "My Vision Foundation" for young breast cancer survivors)

Verse 1:
Skipping down the street without a care,
Pink satin ribbons tied up in her hair,
Giggling with friends and wishing on stars,
Pink ribbons streaming from her handlebars
Stopping by the market to say “Hi” to Mr. Gibbons...

Chorus: Pink ribbons, Pink ribbons...

Verse 2:
Ready for her date to the senior prom
Long satin dress, pink ribbon corsage
Dressed in white on her wedding day
Pink ribbons decorate her bridal bouquet
Perfect days, just like she envisioned with...

Chorus: Pink ribbons, Pink ribbons...

Bridge:
But all the plans that she made
Seemed to suddenly fade
When the doctor came back with the news
So in the mirror she stared, at her body, her hair
And grieved for the life she once knew.
“God, send me a miracle! A sign that your listening!”
Then, when she opened her eyes, flowers filled the room,
and she cried, for they were all tied with... Pink Ribbons!

Verse 3:
2 years later on that football field
She's whole and healthy, completely healed
Racing for the cure on the hundred yard dash
Wearing her Pink Ribbon survivor’s sash
screaming, “It’s my time to start living!!”
And as she crossed that finish line, she broke through...

Chorus: those Pink ribbons, Pink ribbons!
