Bio
Chanteuse is an instrumental pop band lead by Haligonian musician Robert Drisdelle. Initially a one-man-band recording project, featuring colourful pop compositions written and recorded swiftly and on the cheap, inspired in part by composers like Todd Rundgren and Ariel Pink and drawing on the rich melodiousness of composers like Francis Poulenc and Ennio Morricone.
Since then the project has developed into a live act featuring several different unique instrumentations, including strings and live-sampling tape loops, winds and karaoke machine, and more recently a guitar/bass/drums rock quartet with additional winds and strings. Chanteuse has performed in the Halifax Pop Explosion and the OBEY Convention, and still continues as a solo recording project. The group currently operates as a 6-piece with sort of a surf-music instrumentation and spirit, bringing the tuneful compositions to life in full richness and dynamic while maintaining the project’s idiosyncratic vision.
