Nicole Thomas and Meghan Adkins are two friends with a supernatural musical connection. They formed the legendary Seattle band Mavis Piggott in the mid-90’s, then reunited in Oakland years later to form Chaos of Birds. Meghan is a ferocious singer and songwriter, unafraid to show vulnerability yet possessed of a voice that summons astonishing depths of rage and passion. Nicole plays drums with a effortless zeal that belies her technical skill. With Chaos of Birds, they’ve added great guitar and bass in the way of Will Morton and Matt Ray, and the result is well-crafted bluesy sludge.
Having just returned from a UK tour, Chaos of Birds are planning their next steps (take note managers, booking agents and A&R humans!), including some shows on the west coast. They recorded a couple of songs recently and I’m honored to share the first with you. It’s called “Rank and Ruin” and Meghan’s yowl never sounded better. - Boing Boing

Bio
Originally formed in 2005 as a vehicle to write about the death of her grandmother, Chaos of Birds Meghan Adkins dove straight into the history of her family and the stories shed heard over the years, writing songs that conjure a strange and dark narrative. Because Chaos of Birds songs are based on events dug up from the seedy ruins of a once great family, they feel like handmade films, offering unnerving insights into the peculiar lives of people long gone. Somewhere from the boggy deep, Adkins draws on an otherwise unheard musical conversation between Patti Smith and Nick Cave.
Adkins previous band, Mavis Piggott, also with Nicole Thomas, was almost a cult phenomenon, breaking into the Seattle music scene in the mid 90s after recording a 6 song EP that was practiced for only by long distance phone calls between the two women. Both had recently relocated to the west coast after doing time in Washington DCs strictly coded punk music scene; Thomas in Dischords Fire Party, Adkins in Special K (also with Thomas).
Despite the fact that their myspace page classifies their sound as rock/rock/rock, sometimes they sound like a darkly melodic, country-tinged band of ghosts. Other times they sound like the most talented members of Veruca Salt, Mudhoney and the White Stripes in a scorched-earth Americana act. The Chaos of Birds: The most fun you'll ever have being made to feel lonesome. "
