Bio
Character Fleadh's name is a pun on the Gaelic word for "music festival," which is pronounced "flah."
We're serious about Irish music, but we don't take ourselves too seriously.
Randy Mollner (fiddle, banjo) and Ethan Sellers (guitar, vocals) met when their other projects were on the same bill at a local Chicago bar, and found that they shared an interest in traditional Irish fiddle tunes.
Within months, they had put together 4 sets of music and were playing weddings/parties, leading a regular session at the Hidden Shamrock, and played a marathon-like run of eight 3-hour gigs in five days over St. Pat's weekend.
Flutist/piccolist Constance Volk and bodhran player Mark Grondy joined in mid-2010.
In the two years since Character Fleadh formed, they've shared the stage with traditional Irish music luminaries such as John Williams of Solas and have played many Chicago-area venues, including Beverly Arts Center (Chicago, IL), Nevin's (Evanston, IL), Fiddler's Hearth (South Bend, IN), Hidden Shamrock (Chicago), Irish Oak (Chicago), Palmer House Hilton (Chicago), Evanston Women's Club, Whole Foods (Lincoln Park, Chicago), Celtic Knot (Evanston), Durty Nellie's (Palatine, IL), Tom Kelly's (New Lenox, IL), Palmer Place (LaGrange, IL), Ms. Murphy's Irish Bistro (Chicago), Timothy O'Toole's (Gurnee, IL), and many others.
