""Sleepers Awake" a spiritual odyssey"

Sleepers Awake is a spiritual odyssey from mother/daughter duo
Char Butler and Amber Whitworth. Ethereal voices in sync beckon like celestial mermaids for the listener to come forth on tracks like Always For Me. A special rendition of McCartney’s Let It Be, softly reminds us that the torch has indeed been passed to the coming generation, whether to teach with or learn from, this song really lends itself to the feminine emotional plea. This is further evident in the lyrics to Peace (Whatever Happens). Waited ‘Til Noon carries the mourning of lost love with a strong Celtic feel. Butler and Whitworth then move into a seductive gospel sound on Wade in the Water that could possibly make even the most reluctant to at least dip in a toe.

A CD for lovers of music and searchers of truth.

"The Calm Cafe"

Artist: Char Butler
Title: “My Life”-”Tonight” [promo single]
Grade: A
Web: http://www.charbutler.com
I haven’t checked, but these songs are probably available on iTunes. Also included on her album Secrets of the Heart, “My Life (I Love You)” and “Tonight” embody exactly the kind of music that the Calm Cafe champions. Just because it’s Easy Listening doesn’t mean it isn’t hip or creative. We’re not about Barry Manilow here. Char Butler is a creative kin to Sarah McLachlan, that of the soothing, otherworldy voice, especially “My Life (I Love You)” with its transcendent vocal performance. “Tonight” is just as impressive but in a different way, opting for the rootsy acoustic pop of Sheryl Crow. Both are well-produced and engaging, and a positive sign that this artist is going places.

"Twang Town"

Dreamy vocals embellish Char Butler’s evocative pop/rock
Char Butler/”My Life”-”Tonight” [promo single]
Taken from her album Secrets of the Heart, the songs “My Life (I Love You)” and “Tonight” glide by with dreamy textures and somewhat ethereal vocals. With its sublime piano and subtle electronica touches, “My Life (I Love You)” is probably too gorgeous and evocative for commercial radio. Do they still play songs as sweetly arranged and fetchingly sung as this? I’m reminded of the Cranberries without the post-grunge guitars and Irish accents. “Tonight” is reportedly a success on Adult Contemporary radio stations, and I can easily see why. The singing is reminiscent of Paula Cole’s without trying to be (it just is), and the arrangements are more down-to-Earth, a warm bed of acoustic guitars as Butler’s soft voice drifts to the clouds. Daydream the afternoon away.

'Sleepers Awake', 2009
'Secrets of the Heart', 2007

Char's second album 'Sleepers Awake' released in June 2009, entices listeners with a rootsy sound that is full of intricate harmony. Her music has an eclectic grouping of songs some considered to be Adult Contemporary/Folk with vocal kinship to Paula Cole, and Joni Mitchell but instrumental composition  similar to U2. Her music also has songs that reflect a New Age/Celtic sound incorporating world instruments similar to Loreena McKennitt. As a writer her lyrics focus peace and healing although she does have some unreleased material that is for guidance. Char is a believer in positive thought and is tuned into the energy movement worldwide. Her first album 'Secrets of the Heart' is being used in ICU hospital recovery units, massage clinics, spas and in yoga classes. Some of the songs on the CD are referring to the invisible realm and the veil that exists between reality and the spiritual realm. Char feels that the quote, "Be Still and Know God" is very significant in her own life.

Char is of Irish descent and has found that many Celtic fans love her peaceful folk style music including the penny whistle on "Sleepers Awake". Char started singing at the age of six in a small church in western Oklahoma and has studied voice, clarinet and guitar. She was the guitar instructor at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma for many years, performed in the Enid Symphony, directed church choirs, and was a vocal competition judge at the Tri-State Music Festival. Char holds a Master Degree from Oklahoma State University and her daughter Amber, holds a Bachelor Degree from Arizona State University.  Amber is featured on 'Sleepers Awake' album singing lead vocals on the 5th track "Waited 'til Noon".

Char is currently working on an instrumental spa album and a singer/songwriter album of newly written music.
Her music is available for purchase on her website www.charbutler.com, itunes, amazon and cdbaby.
