"'America's Got Talent': Charles DeWayne vs Rockin' Rory"

Tonight on "America's Got Talent," Sharon picks a cute dog over a gorgeous hunk of a man. In other news, hell freezes over.

You know, I really don't care that much about who advances tonight as long as The Fab 5 and Charles DeWayne make it. I'd like to see Beale Street Flippers get another shot to put together a really good routine, but I won't cry about it if they don't.

The final two tonight are Charles DeWayne and Rockin' Rory. Man, that sucks. I'd take another Rockin' Rory routine over the Texas Tenors or Paradizo Dance. And how do you say no to a cute dog? But Charles was better than Rory last night. Sharon asks for more time to decide, so they move on to The Hoff, who votes for Rockin' Rory. Piers says that Charles DeWayne not going through would be a huge scandal, so he votes for Charles. Sharon then hems and haws as we creep towards the end of the hour. She finally votes for... Rockin' Rory. WOW, Sharon. Wow. - Zap2It

"La Verne’s Charles DeWayne Dorsey Rips it Up on America’s Got Talent"

LaVerneOnline brings you good news and bad news:

The good news is we were able to contact Charles DeWayne Dorsey, La Verne’s hot playing keyboardist and singer whose version of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” rocked the judges and studio audience in episode nine of America’s Got Talent, which aired nationwide on NBC, July 21.

The bad news, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist can’t tell us much more about the show, his performance, his music or his future dreams at the moment because of contractual obligations to the television show.

Therefore, we’ll tell you what we know based on past postings about the former Damien High School student, now 21, whose family resides in La Verne.

DeWayne brings a fresh new sound to the world of entertainment “from the depths of La Verne,” according to his MySpace posting. He is not only a songwriter, but also a vocalist, saxophonist, drummer, keyboardist, actor, model & overall “Renaissance Man.

DeWayne is said to represent a blend of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire and Marvin Gaye influenced by the present contemporary sounds of John Legend and Ne-Yo.

On his July 21 America’s Got Talent performance, he not only won over the judges and audience, but also TV Guide critic Dana Zepeda:

“Singer/ keyboardist Charles DeWayne Dorsey was the real deal,” Zepeda said. “I was skeptical when Mama Dorsey told Nick (the host) that her son ‘was born to do this.’ C’mon, don’t all moms say that? But Sharon (Osborne) nailed it when she told him, ‘You’ve got that little bit of star quality about you.’ His feel good cover of Stevie Wonder’s hit “Signed, Sealed Delivered” was the high note of the night.”

Even before DeWayne’s nationwide performance, he had been picking up favorable and enthusiastic reviews for his songwriting and musicality. Here’s another excerpt from a recent review:

“The music reaches incredible heights of jazz and fusion that is almost addictive. Your musical composition is complex, alive and vivid. The melodies are an infectious creative explosion!.” “The music pushes you forward, inward, outward and through various layers of sounds, while the vocals bring out the passion and energy in the song.”

You can hear more of Dorsey’s high notes by checking out his http://www.myspace.com/officialcharlesdewayne or http://www.youtube.com/charlesdewayne. Also click on Reel People on LaVerneOnline.com to view Charles DeWayne’s most recent performance on “America’s Got Talent.”

As soon as Charles is contractually able to speak to the media, LaVerneOnline will bring you the full story on this amazing young man and musical talent “from the depths of La Verne.” Until then, enjoy his music.

"Ishaara and Charles Dwayne Dorsey - America's Got Talent, Myspace Auditions"

Charles Dwayne Dorsey

Only one other act shined as bright as Ishaara, and that was down-to-Earth musical prodigy Charles Dwane Dorsey. Reported by his Mother as being "born to be a musician," 21 year old Dorsey came out on stage with his voice swinging like an axe to Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered - I'm Yours." And as he sang, he also drummed along with his piano, delivering us a harmonious collaboration of skillfully-played notes with a perfect-sounding voice. But most notable about this young man was his humble attitude—when asked about his dream, he expressed the desire to immediately start his Mother's retirement. Many blessings to you, Mr. Dorsey; your Mother clearly brought up a wonderful young man!

"'America's Got Talent' recap: Xs and 'Oh!'s"

'America's Got Talent' recap: Xs and 'Oh!'s
by Henning Fog
Categories: America's Got Talent

Our second performance night of the quarterfinals was a bit more daring than what we saw last week. Perhaps emboldened by the first round’s acts, several contestants delivered polarizing routines, many of which played directly to Piers’ desire to “be more liberal with his buzzer”…and made our own voting decisions that much easier to narrow down. In the interest of brevity — we’ve got a results show coming up tonight, after all — we’re going to quickly run down the acts in descending order of quality. Or what I felt was the order. As usual, I am probably wrong.

Advance, please!
The night got off to a great start with performances by the Fab Five and Charles DeWayne, two acts given plenty of air time in the audition rounds who tonight proved they deserved the spotlight. Up first were the five tap-dancing sisters from Utah, who after holding cyber-rehearsals (how 21st century!) managed to pull off another impressive routine. While the fire theme may have been slightly distracting and a little off-note, given their act’s focus on precision and careful choreography over speed and heat, their footwork was great. “Brilliant,” said Sharon. “I’m gonna set my house on fire; will you put it out?” asked The Hoff. Charles likewise brought the same confidence and charm to his second performance (a rendition of “Just the Two of Us”) that he did in the audition round. Not sarcastically, Piers noted that the kid may have what it takes to become a major star.
