Bio
Who are Charles Ratkie and the Cavalry?
Immersed in songwriting and performance at age 6, Charles Ratkie learned the fundamentals of composition, lyricism and guitar playing from his father. He developed his evocative voice and learned to play the piano (among other instruments) through involvement in his local church and, in 2008, began adding electronic rhythms to his unadorned guitar and tender vocals to create his signature head-bobbing sound.
In 2009, Charles Ratkie and the Cavalry formed around the titular singer/songwriter to bring his poignant style of heartfelt acoustic-pop first to live audiences and, now, on tour. Fellow multi-instrument musicians and hometown friends Kris Luke, (bass guitar) Jake Rowan (lead guitar/keyboards) and Jared Key (Drums) complete the band.
What can you expect?
Imagine Brett Dennen meets Hello Goodbye and, you realize with a smile, reminds you of Louis Armstrong. Coming from off the stage are simple songs about love, loss and longing that are sweet, sad and always sincere. CR&C proves that catchy and straight-forward acoustic-pop doesn't have to be soulless. Charles Ratkie is constitutionally incapable of writing a song that is forgettable.
Listen and try it.
