You know you are on the rise when people actually know your name and you are no longer just “that duded”. The moment when you just opened for a show and afterwards people are congratulating you and saying how phenomenal you did. This humbling moment happened for Minneapolis rapper Levi Cash after opening up for Young Dro during a show in Mankato. Levi Cash describes the excitement he feels when his fans mention him on Facebook or Twitter comparing it to climbing Mt Everest. With quick witted lyrics and the pen as his sword, Levi Cash is ready to represent for his city, and put Minnesota on the map.
As an Audio Engineering student at the Institute of Production and Recording, Levi Cash is learning the ropes behind the scenes while perfecting his God given talent; rapping. North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN had no idea that when Levi Levi’s single mother went into delivery that hot summer day in 1991 a star would be born. Being raised without a father built a silent rage in Levi Cash, born Charles Kimber Jr.. He would later channel these conflicting emotions in his heartfelt lyrics.
At age 11 while most of his peers were playing video games, Levi was busy using the pen to stroke his ego, creating word jambalaya and serving it up hot. When he started recording at age 15 his verses started coming quicker, and people starting noticing what he was coming up with… and they liked it.
While his primer solo mixtape, "Get Money or Get Lost" proved to be that of rookie caliber, the best was yet to come. Countless hours in the studio expressing his thoughts through a microphone allowing him to creatively explode out of his shell eventually paid off. "The Best You Never Heard", "M.I.A. (Music Is All)", and his latest project "JEANIUS" and "ALL GOLD" prove to be a direct reflection of Levi’s quest for excellence. Though he enjoys vibing to his own music, his favorite artists range from XV, Kid Ink, Adelle and John Legend to Andre 3000 and Big Sean. In addition, Levi Cash does not hesitate to note that “Kanye and Drake have had the biggest influence on me they are who I look up to”.
“There have been several times when I felt like quitting or giving up. Sometimes I find myself asking "what am I doing wrong that these other guys are doing", "Why don’t I have more fans than what I do now". Then in the same thought, Levi remembers that success doesn't happen overnight so when it does come, it will equate to a superior victory. Despite numerous setbacks in his young life, this Minnesota native is not about to let anything stop him; not today, not tomorrow, not ever. “I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get there”.
