"CHARLIE'S ANTHEM STOPS TODAY SHOW"

If performing at the Sydney Cricket Ground was nerve racking the butterflies were surely racing in Charlie Bleines' stomach as she prepared to sin the Anthem on National TV.
And the 16 year old's performance was literally a show stopper with hosts Richard Wilkins and Leila McKinnon standing to attention. etc., - THE MORNING BULLETIN, ROCKHAMPTON

"CITY GYM MUSICAL"

Charlie Bleines, singer, songwriter and actress has been cast in the lead female role for City Gym the Musical which premieres in Sydney pm October 14. The Shows Writer, Producer and Director, Daniel Thompson ( a star of Grease (the Musical) says "its exciting to be working with someone you know will be the next big thing. I've been around some of the biggest stars before they were big, and they had that something the Charlie is brimming with. She has it all, personality, beautiful, confident and an extraordinary voice! She 's ahead of her time at only 16 years old. - SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

"GIG BEFORE THE PM WORTH A MILLION"

At the request of the Prime Minister John Howard Charlie 16 year old Charlie will perform at a special private function at The Lodge tonight.
Charlie yesterday said she was excited and honoured by the invitation, saying she had been told the PM had asked for her after her perform the Anthem at the start of the Second Test against South Africa. Normally he just says ( to staff) You make the decision but this year he said, " I want that Charlie Bleines girl" she said etc., - THE MORNING BULLETIN

"CROWD CONTROL"

Not many 15 year olds can say they have performed solo in front of 30,000 people. But Charlie has done just that as she was the headline act before kickoff for the West Tigers and St.George Dragons game at Testra Stadium last Sunday. Charlie has also performed at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane before the Bronco's semi final. Deltra Goodman made her mark on theindustry after singing at a Sydney Swans match. Pop's crown princess may have some competition. etc; - INNER CITY MAGAZINE SYDNEY

"FELT A RIGHT CHARLIE"

We have heard lots of different ways of a career getting a kickalong but the one involving singer Charlie Bleines takes some beating. Rockhampton gal Charlie is the 16 year old who fluffed her lines whilst belting out the national anthem beore last month's Australia-South Africa Test at the SCG, Well, Charlie has put all that behind her - and in a big way - with revelations that Prime Minister John Howard was at the SCG that day and was so taken by the way she handled her hiccup he later hired her to sing before 400 diplomats at a private reception at The Lodge in Canberra. "Usually he ( the PM) has someone else choose a singer for his functions but this year he said, I want Charlie Bleines to do it
Etc:- - THE AGE SYDNEY

"MOVE OVER MEGAN, HERE'S THE MAIN EVENT"

Hurstville's councillors will test a different version of the National Anthem before their meeting on Wednesday. After Cr. Sandy Grakas asked for a better version last year, steady work in the off season has uncovered a traditional version sung by Julie Anthony ( They clearly haven't heard SIT'S and PM'S anthemist of choice, Charlie Bleines, whose creative rearrangements, are making Anthony sound like yesterday's woman) - THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

"HOW DOES IT GO AGAIN"

Today's issue comes to you despite the continuing effects of heatstroke, hangovers, bushfire smog and not enough sleep, so do bear with us.

And bear with the poor anthem singer Charlie Bleines who, despite being 16 and too young to have hangovers, must have felt much as we did yesterday. Bleines stood up to belt out the national song before the third test against South Africa at the SCG - and forgot a line or two.

So she did what any little Aussie battler would in the circumstances - she soldiered right on, making them up instead.

Channel Nine didn't broadcast the moment (Richie, Tony, Bill et al were probably still too busy lionising the late Kerry Packer) so we couldn't evaluate her creative adaptation of Advance Australia Fair last night. But our man in the Members' Pavilion said it all went south on the line "Our land abounds in nature's gifts of beauty rich and rare".

"I'm still trying to figure out what she said but it wasn't that," he yelled down the phone. "It was quite windy at the time so she was trying to keep her skirt from billowing up, and it was hard to hear. I felt sorry for her. It might have been in Afrikaans."

Cricket Australia's mouthpiece Graeme Vimpani admitted: "I did hear a couple of lines go astray towards the very end. The crowd started laughing and I knew something had gone wrong. She had a beautiful singing voice, though."

Bleines has sung anthems successfully to sporting crowds in the past (pictured, by Edward Cross), even at Telstra Stadium, but she's no stranger to the roller-coaster ride that is the professional performer's game. After leaving Rockhampton to brave the bright lights of Emerald City a year ago, she landed a role in City Gym, the Musical - a touching portrait of the lives and loves of some Darlingithurts exercise junkies that was about 11 years in the making. But one week before opening, poor ticket sales forced producers to pull its plug.

COMMENTS BY BRIAN MCGRATH, BRISBANE BRONCOE'S OPERATIONS MANAGER;=

Brian McGrath Operations Manager Brisbane Bronco's comments January 20, 2006 :- " When I was initially contacted (June 2004)about Charlie I was skeptical only because of her age. I heard her voice and thought...she has a magnificient voice and I'll give her a go" Since first meeting Charlie she has shown a maturity beyond her years. All her family should be congratulated for helping her become the person she is. As a performer she is an adult but at times , meeting the players she returns to a 'normal young girl'. I laugh to myself because at one game (last year) she sang wonderfully and also drew "Charlie was here" on one of the blackboards whilst waiting to see the players. I am a big fan of hers and wish her all the best in music and her life. It is an honour to have played a small part in her journey in this part of her life".

In July 2004 "Charlie" performed for the first time at Suncorp Stadium before 24500 people. Charlie sang 5 songs two of which were her own. This was
