Bio

Born and raised on the soulful sounds of his native Mississippi, Charlie Worsham began studying music through piano lessons at the age of six. Two years later, he took up the 5-string banjo. In 5th grade, Charlie began to teach himself to strum chords on an acoustic guitar by playing along to his parents’ country and classic rock records.
At the age of 10, Charlie had the opportunity to pick banjo alongside the “King of Bluegrass” Jimmy Martin at the legendary Ryman Auditorium. In May of 1998, Charlie won the title of Junior National Banjo Champion. Two months later, he was invited to perform with Mike Snider on the world-famous WSM Grand Ole Opry, where he received a standing ovation.
Throughout his high school years, Charlie became involved in several bands, namely a rock group known as “The Players.” With The Players, Charlie built his chops at festivals and nightclubs throughout the Mississippi Delta.
Charlie Worsham is now a second semester student at Berklee. Since the fall 2004 semester, he has been a part of some of the college’s most distinguished events. Most recently, Charlie was involved in the Earl Scruggs Honorary Doctorate Ceremony at the Country Music Hall of Fame. At the ceremony, Charlie performed with fellow faculty and students Joe Walsh, Donna McElroy, Stephen Webber, Dave Hollender, and Matt Glazer, as well as legends Earl Scruggs, Bela Fleck, Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings.
