Bio

Born Steven Ray Hernandez in 1985, C.H.A.R.M. aka The "956 Freestyle King" grew up in a small Texas town named San Benito, famous for spawning the late Freddy Fender.
"My grandma played a major role in my upbringing, primarily because my mom was on her grind, going to school and working to support me," Charm said. "We lived in the projects for a while, then jumped around before moving to La Gallina." "We weren't dirt poor, but I never really had money like most of my friends," he added.
For the most part, school and sports helped keep him out of trouble throughout his childhood and teenage years. In fact, just one look at the onslaught of trophies in his studio-room prove he was a frequent all-star in everything from baseball, to basketball, to football. "Like I said before, I never really had the money or as nice clothes as my friends, so being good at sports is what helped me fit in with the popular crowd." "I always thought I was destined to play professional sports, but here I am living out another big dream,"he added.
At the age of 18, Charm graduated from San Benito High School in 2003, and while many thought college and sports was the route he would take, it was the streets that caught his attention. "I got kicked out of my house 3 days after graduation and I turned into somewhat of a monster- doing drugs and breaking into houses every day," he said. "Catching a first-degree felony drug charge in 2004 finally knocked a "little bit" of sense into me," he added with a laugh.
In 2005, he turned to writing as an outlet from all the trouble he was getting into. He landed a full-time job with a popular newspaper and even won several state awards for his compositions. He later moved to Dallas and thats where things really took off.
Since then, Charm has performed with major artists across Texas and has done media features EVERYWHERE.
Most of his music can easily be categorized as "gangsta rap," a genre he says was influenced by the likes of Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac in his younger days.
"I think a lot of people are confused by my lyrics, because some people only know my positive accolades, like sports and writing," he said. "They don't know about all the times Ive been in trouble."
"Trust me, Im not proud of these things, they are just facts of life that I feel must be expressed in my music, feel me, " he added.
Today, Charm resides in the Dallas,Texas and is now doing tv and film to add to his resume. He recently worked on tv shows for NBC and Fox and was featured in a Gatorade commercial.
