Bio

John Holmstrom, founder of the city's notorious Punk magazine and a scenester since the late-'70s heyday of The Ramones. "New York's kinda blue collar, and a lot of bands resent the fact that The Strokes have rich parents. Everyone's still baffled by their success. The Bullies, Charm School, The Star Spangles, Turbo ACs: these were the most-likely-tos. The Strokes were seen as these uptown kids... slumming basically. Someone told me they hired a publicist before they even rehearsed." Charm School has been fixture in the NYC music scene for several years. Their combination of punk rock attitude and simplicity, and new wave melodic catchy sound has won over a varied audience. Young No Doubt/Green Day fans as well as old school Ramones/Blondie fans rarely miss a show. The lyrics are sarcastic, tounge-in-cheek style bringing back the days when music was FUN rather than somber and selfishly political. Charm Schools stage show is always entertaining. Fashion is a must for this band. They have appeared in many magazines including Q magazine, and NYC indies such as The New York Press, NY Waste & Creamy Fist. On the radio--"Dead Guy"was played on Jonathan Clarke's show on Q104.3 and the band did a live broadcast on WFMU. Also check out Charm School on myspace/Atomic Radio. Charm School has also recorded with producers Andy Shernoff ( The Dictators) and recently Daniel Rey(The Ramones,Misfits, Nashville Pussy etc.).The energy on stage forces the crowd into motion. Charm Schools favorite thing is performing live. They have appeared with such acts as Joey Ramone, Marky Ramone,The Vibrators, The Dictators, D Generation, & Ronnie Spector just to mention a few. Being close friends with Joey Ramone, they were a regular at his annual bashes. Play it, live it, love it. And dare not to dance to it.
