"Chase Reason turns his visions to rap bars"

Tell me a bit about who you are as an artist:

Chase Reason is just as the name suggests, I am an artist trying to build an
image around substance rather than material things. Growing up in a number of high risks neighborhoods, I recognize the challenges that youth in these areas face, specifically speaking, easy access to opportunity killers(i.e Drugs, Guns) as opposed to opportunity itself. The second major challenge is lack of role models or too many role models in a lifestyle that is not conducive to success in the fabric of our society today.Fundamentally, the purpose of Chase Reason and his music to  is produce a role model that can be looked to for support and as alternative lifestyle/path   for children in high risk   neighborhoods.

Have you been working on any major projects lately? And if so when
will it be about?

Yes, I recently completed a project titled “Chase Reason Presents: Avengers The Mixtape”. You can download it now at www.chasereason.com It was a themed project, and done in a way which characterized some of Marvel’s characters such as Thor and Iron Man into tracks on the project. To answer your question in real time: I am currently working on a project titled: Appreciation Volume 1. This project is a hybrid between original tracks and remixes of existing tracks on the market today. The purpose of this project was to provide a means of growth
to myself while still producing music and remaining current in a fast changing market. Appreciation will be out early September.

When did you realize performing was your passion? Was this a childhood dream?

I realized this in Grade 12 at my high school Father Henry Carr, through a class titled: “Creative Writing”.  No this  wasn't  a childhood dream for me, it evolved over time, while I was in High School.

Who are some of your musical influences? Is this what helps you produce your music?

Pac, Biggie, Nas, Big L, Shyheim, Beanie Siegel, and Jay-Z. This helps to develop the music to an extent. All of these figures have been monumental in terms of development and provided a framework for rap overall.

As an artist, what sort of message(s) do you try to evoke to the public?

My main message to the public is that every decision has risks associated with it that can make life better or worse. Before you make a decision, most important thing is to think it through and then consider alternatives.

What sort of artist do you see yourself collaborating with?

I can see myself collaborating with Neo-Soul, R&B and Soft Rock artists. All three of these genres produce comprehensive sounds that I can leverage and take advantage of.

What makes you different from any other artist in the media?

I would have to say that my core values as referenced in question one, and the socially driven motivation to show high risks youth that even if there is no opportunity, you can create it through hard work and focus.

What’s your next step as a musician? Where do you see yourself in the next 3 years?

My next step is travel the world a bit more and gain exposure in the various markets and cities.  In the next 3 years its difficult, but I imagine I will be doing international shows and collaborating with different artists on a global platform.

Do you have any advice for those who wish to pursue this career?

My only advice would be to diversify your portfolio as much as you can. Listen to other genres to get ideas and thoughts, and be truthful to yourself in your music.
A lot of artists rap about a life they don’t live, and you will eventually be called on that, which hurts your overall credibility.

Where can we find your music and learn more about you?

"Chase Reason is Back"

Still fresh off the release of his mix tape Avengers - The Mixtape, Chase is wasting no time in getting back to the studio and keeping the tunes coming. Luckily for us here at Liberty, he's using our vocal suites to track these killer tunes. Backed by Sean Riley and Northbridge Music Group, Chase has become a regular face in and around Liberty, frequently booking out Saturday's to work on new tunes, the sessions appropriately dubbed “Session Saturdays”.

His newest release is available for streaming and download on Soundcloud and it doesn't disappoint. Chase's lyrics and style illustrate a passion for his craft and this track is no exception to the mixtape from a few months ago. Titled “Rap Game” and featuring fellow Northbridge artist Koyce D Caesar the track is about Chase's feelings towards the current status of the music industry and rap in particular. This is one track that stands out as it is one of the most relatable to those in the music industry who no doubt share his feelings on the ever changing scene.

"There is a New Avenger in Town"

It looks like Nick Fury has a new name to add to his S.H.I.E.L.D rolodex. Just the other evening here at Liberty Studios we had the pleasure of hosting a listening party for Toronto’s own Chase Reason for his new EP. His new mixtape, dubbed Chase Reason presents Avengers: The Mixtape drew loosely from the summer blockbuster The Avengers for some inspiration which naturally, can only lead to awesomeness all across the board. Peppered within the track listing are subtle nods to Stan Lee and some of his characters from the Marvel universe.

There was no doubt in our minds that the mixtape would be huge and sure enough, it didn’t disappoint. From start to finish, the mixtape was packed with tracks that clearly came straight from the heart. You only really need to talk to Chase for a minute to see that this is a man who has a genuine love for his craft, and believe us this love shows in his tracks. Chase is usually involved in the writing process from start to finish stating in his bio he considers himself a “song designer” as opposed to placing a specific label on himself and his genre or style.

Keep an eye out for Chase in the future and make sure to download Avengers – The Mixtape from his webpage, you won’t be disappointed! - Liberty Studio

Bio

Chase Reason is a Toronto ON, native that grew up
in the tough streets of Flemingdon Park, a neighbourhood
In the North York region of the city. After some time,
Chase and his family moved to Rexdale. Growing up
in a number of high risks neighbourhoods , he is no stranger to the realities of the streets, and the vicious toll they can take if one is consumed by that beast.

Chase: Music is what stopped me from making many tempting decisions, so if I can make music to help
others better recognize some of these risks, than its a
win-win

Chase has struggled at times , as an artist with how to express his thoughts and feelings to his fans in a relatable way, however has never been confused about it. Chase has
identified a great deal of the issues that can plague
the children of the inner-city .He has determined that majority of the issues can be attributed to lack of positive male role models. Chase hopes that he can be a positive example for those kids and young adults , so that they may look to him and his music for help in coping with everyday life. The name Chase Reason was chosen to represent the ideal that motivation should come from within and not from
external influences.

Chase Reason has been rapping and doing poetry for 4 5 years. In 2011, he decided to debut his first official mixtape Dont Make Mistakes. Chase recognizes that we need to go back to packaging pictures and stories of our lives as regular people. It helps lend credence that artists/celebrities are real people too. Good story telling is a big part of what makes Chase stand out from a lot of the other artists in the game today.

Chase was always fascinated by the unknown and the core sciences. These passions led him to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Ontario, which he has successfully completed. Other interests include poetry and movies. Two of his favourites are Tears of the Sun and V for Vendetta.
