"Chase The Moment To Perform Thursday"

A Switchblade Affair was a regular in Amarillo several years ago, often performing at the old Club Illuminati.

That band ended its run in March, but three of its members will perform Thursday as Chase the Moment at The 806.

“We aren’t recycling any old material at all. The old band was heavier; this one is geared more to rock and punk influences,” said Chris Chavez, guitar and vocals.

The other ASA members are Jimmy Czywcznski, drums, and Alex Kirby, bass. Longtime friend Nick Barker joins the three on guitar.

Chase the Moment formed about three months ago, and began its first tour about a week ago.

“It has been intense, but we haven’t had any expectations to live up to like with the old band,” Chavez said.

“The only expectation to live up to is to show up and play music.”

The band has become more focused on playing a good show, rather than just pumping the mosh pit.

“This band is more focused on playing really good sounding music. When I go to a show, I don’t necessarily care if someone is rocking their brains around,” Chavez said.

The band currently has one song posted on its MySpace, but plans to record for an album once it returns home to Cheyenne, Wyo. It will head out on tour again in Nov., with a possible CD available by winter.

“We’re doing this because we love music. It’s an excuse to travel and play music with your friends,” Chavez said.

He said the band would like the friends it made as ASA to give Chase the Moment a chance.

“Hopefully our friends that we made in the last four years will come and have fun,” he said. - Amarillo Globe-News
