Bio
Chaz Glass and Ed Newkirk, two seasoned and multi-talented musicians and vocalists, bring on a variety of musical styles. Both were born into the rock ‘n roll traditions of the 50s, nurtured in the diverse musical explosion of the 60s, and both played with groups opening for some of the great acts of that time, including Moody Blues, Captain Hook, Beach Boys, Cream, and Wilson Pickett.
Ed started studying guitar at age eight, and moved quickly to teaching and performing with a variety of groups. Chaz began studying piano at age ten, sang tenor in an a cappella group as a young teen, and sang lead and harmony vocals in a rock band that toured the Northeast college circuit while he was studying on one of the original room-sized Moog synthesizers at Brown University.
Ed’s expansive experience includes arranging and performing with big bands, teaching guitar, and working recording sessions in NYC during the 60s and early 70s. Ed’s band opened Great Adventure Theme Park, playing on the bill with Charlie Rich, Lynn Anderson and Ray Price. While Ed was gettin’ his street cred, Chaz was playing a mix of Motown, R&B, Beatles and the heavy metal music of Cream, Hendrix, and Jethro Tull. Sidelined by serious illness, in 1970 Chaz went into “acoustic recovery” and began writing songs, occasionally performing solo. More recently, the two of them have been performing an eclectic mix of musical styles for assorted audiences on South Whidbey Island.
Ed’s arsenal of instruments includes Telecaster / Strat, baritone, six and twelve string acoustic guitars, resonator, 5-string banjo and dobro. Chaz plays six and 12 string acoustic guitars, sometimes with electric effects, a Fantom X-8 keyboard, harmonicas, piano, and sings a variety of vocal styles including rock, R&B, country cross-over, mid-west country, blues and more. It’s rumored these guys can whistle, stomp their feet, rub their tummies and pat their heads all at the same time, but no one’s actually ever seen them do it.
Their mixture of original songs and cover tunes promises to entertain.
