"Chasing Dragons Are Closing In On The Sound And Excitement Of Vintage 70s And 80s Heavy Metal"

New Brunswick Metal Band, Chasing Dragons, takes the attitude and riffs of some of the best heavy metal of the past decades and breathes into it a fire all their own. This heavy quintet plans to tour and promote their music across Canada and the U.S. this summer and into the fall as they prepare to record and release their new record.

Dateline: Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, May 24, 2013. Chasing Dragons hope to expand and grow their audience across the United States and Canada and they are on the lookout for opportunities to generate a buzz about their music. Chasing Dragons was formed in 2010 by guitarist, songwriter and metal fan, Brian Mazerolle. With the help of bandmates, Manoli K. on lead vocals, Steve Walsh on lead guitar, Shawn Lester on bass and Greg Melanson on drums, these guys want to capture the essence and the excitement of 70s and 80s metal bands like Mötorhead and Iron Maiden. Drawing influence and inspiration from other heavy hitters (The Cult, Guns 'N' Roses and Black Sabbath, to name a few) you might ask, just who do Chasing Dragons actually sound like? They sound like Chasing Dragons. They don't get compared to anybody.

With songs about the trials and tribulations of life (struggling to overcome addiction and standing up for yourself and your convictions) the band also readily admits to being inspired by women and horror (one hopes they mean the horror genre of film and fiction). They have some ambitious plans for the rest of 2013. The release of their new EP is scheduled for this summer. The record will be mixed by esteemed rock producer and musician, Harold Hess (Harem Scarem) who has worked with other hard rock bands like My Darkest Days, Muse and Three Days Grace. The band also plans to release a video for their song "So Alive" from the new record. They're making plans for a fall tour and hope to license their songs to TV and movies, as well as get their new video seen on MTV and Much Music in Canada.

The band has some live dates lined up. They will be performing at Michael's Bar & Grill in Halifax, Nova Scotia in August. Chasing Dragons also just went to New York for live a performance and interview on the Real Radio Show that aired on July 6 (www.therealradioshow.com)

The group's music is available through brick and mortar stores, Backstreet Records and Second Spin, both located in the band's hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick, as well as Frank's Music in Moncton, NB. The band has also made free downloads available on the their website and on their MTV.com page: http://www.mtv.com/artists/chasing-dragons/.

Check out videos for "Livin' for the Buzz" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP0tRL7FPuM and) and "Zombie Stomp" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hPbfklwKLI). "Zombie Stomp," (the song, not the video) features guest guitarist and country music artist, Julian Austin, laying down leads.

Bio

Chasing Dragons where formed in oct 2010 by Guitarist songwriter Brian Mazerolle who had envisioned a band that could recreate the energy and mood that was felt from bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motorhead, Sabbath and the other pioneers of Metal from the the 70's and 80's. Although classified as Heavy Metal, Chasing Dragons draw from many genres to create a sound that has been described as "...old School Metal with a new attitude" .

Recruiting high school band-mates Shawn Lester on bass and Greg Melonson on drums, Brian formed the rythum section of the band arranging the songs he had written and demoed on acoustic guitar the previous year. Satisfied with their progress, the boys set out to find a lead guitarist and singer for the newly formed rock machine.

Having picked up a lo-fi garage rock CD at an indie record store of a local group "The Southend Philosophers" Brian recognized the singer from the club scene and thought to approach him about trying out for the Dragons. Manoli who had been growing tired and bored of the jam scene, felt the desire for a new direction to focus his musical energy.

" I had been in my last year of collage and hanging out at the guitar store in between classes, when Maz and Skullet (Melonson) walked in and approached me about a "Real Metal" band they had started and asked if I'd be interested in trying out on vocals" remembers Manoli. "...I was disenchanted with the hippy scene and started to find it boring and contemptuous since I quit dope lol" Manoli adds, "I was all for it." ".. After all, Metal and Hard Rock was the reason I wanted to play in a band in the first place."

After adding virtuoso shredder Dean Roberts on lead guitar the Dragons began to demo songs for what would become their debut EP recorded at Fluid Audio Group and mastered by J Lapointe at Archive mastering. The EP was released in on June 9th 2012 and well received locally by critics and fans alike.
Currently the Band has replaced Dean with Metal veteran and riff master Steve Walsh on lead guitar and have been recording new material and playing shows with no end in site.....
