"Regina Citizen Wins John Lennon Song Writing Contest"

As New Zealand punk trio, The Rabble embark on their extensive 2010 European Tour… good news has come in for founding member, Chazz Rabble (a.k.a Chazz Valentine) and Regina's own, Taron Cochrane.

As of early March 16th, Chazz and Taron were awarded the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Award for “Best Love Song” for their infectious track, “The Brightest Star”.

The song was co-written by Regina freelance writer and punk-rock graphic designer, Taron Cochrane for his wife at their October, 2009 wedding. The song took roughly two to three months to complete and the lyrical duties were split between the two gentlemen, with Chazz handling the music and recording of the project.

Taron suggests, "Every line in this song; in some, way shape or form directly relates to the life my wife and I have shared together. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that hearing the song could stir up the same emotions in someone that I felt while writing it."

Not only have they won for "Best Love Song", but they will also be entered for the Session I portion of the contest, which could see an album being released among many other great opportunities for the duo.

Quickly gaining radio and television airplay (especially in his hometown of Auckland, New Zealand), “The Brightest Star” is the second solo single released by Chazz, who plans on following it up with more solo tracks as well as a new Rabble album in late 2010.

The Rabble’s vocalist/guitarist Chazz has a solo project on the side and he recently wrote a song for his friend Taron Cochrane’s wedding called “The Brightest Star”. (Taron co-wrote some of the lyrics as well..) I listened to the song and it’s actually pretty good. Almost makes you want to fall in love….almost. You can listen to it on Chazz’s MySpace page. Bio

Cutting his teeth and paving a path with successful New Zealand punk trio, The Rabble. Founding member, Chazz Rabble (along with his brother, Rupe) quickly perfected the craft of writing amazing music.
Heavily influenced by the likes of other punk legends, Tim Armstrong (Rancid) & Mike Ness (Social Distortion), Chazz decided it was also his turn to take a chance at a solo side-project.
It was there & then that, "Chazz Valentine" was born.
With at least (6) songs under his sleeve, it was hard to deny that not only was his sound unique...it was also memorable.
After his first single, "Unstoppable" hit the Internet there was no denying that a talented and compassionate person was doing what he loved.
With the success of "Unstoppable" peaking, Chazz was contacted by good friend, Taron Cochrane to help him write a song for his wife, Jenna at their October, 2009 wedding day celebrations.
A few months of correspondence and hard work and his latest single, "The Brightest Star" was born.
Soon enough, "The Brightest Star" began receiving heavy airplay on radio and television throughout New Zealand. Most recently, it was the winner of the 'John Lennon Song Writing Contest' for Best Love Song.
This is only the beginning for Chazz Valentine...as the legendary Joe Strummer once said, "The Future is Unwritten".
