Bio
Cheers in the Belfry is an eclectic folk rock band from Victoria, BC. They’ve earned a reputation for insightful songwriting and energetic stage performance. The sound has been said to have a saloon quality to it, though its also been compared to post modern punk, jazz, and mariachi. Music critics agree it is something important and original. Brothers Dustin and Matt McLean grew up around ocean and campfires, railroads, chipped paint houses, the small town of Ladysmith BC. Matt came to Victoria to study creative writing at the University of Victoria where he met musician, friend, and recording enthusiast Jonathan McMorran, who added the upright bass to the composition. Percussionist Sean Evans and Musician Jeff Gulka joined after, completing the lineup.
Cheers has shared the stage with contemporary professionals such as Jeremy Fisher, Colin James, Spirit of the West and Alison Crowe, but is most proud of their friends and peers in the Victoria independent music scene of which they are a functioning part.
The band is now writing their first full length album.
