Many rappers struggle to establish their musical identity and swagger, trying different styles but in the end looking and sounding generic. Chef De La Monsta emerges fully formed, in full command of his craft, identity and music. The songs that have been released from the his debut upcoming mixtape MONSTERS INSIDE ME heralds the arrival of a gifted and significant new talent, whose music at its core is very hip hop, while being very new sounding.
Born In Jersey City, NJ Oct. 23, 1984 Chef De La Monsta started writing raps at the age of 13. At the age of 16 he became a teenage runaway living in Orlando, Atlanta and lastly Brooklyn, NY. Chef De La Monsta explains “Being homeless helped give me a unique perspective and appreciation of life most people could never understand”. “I would write raps on scraps of paper I found on the street”. “My whole life I always wanted to be a rapper I just wasted a lot of time doing the wrong stuff”.
After bad deals with want to be managers and rap group break ups Chef De La Monsta enters the game as a solo artist. Chef De La Monsta says “I call the type of hip hop I do Abstract Expressionism. That means I go gonzo in the booth. When creating music my plan is to be different. I change the tone, sound and flow of my voice when I rap. I put a lot of emphasis not only in looking and sounding dynamic and different but I put great importance in my lyrics. Right now the people are craving hip hop artist with fresh new perspectives i.e. Wiz Khalifa, Jay Electronica, Odd Future Wolf gang. I want the opportunity to be on that big stage to show the world, Chef De La Monsta”.
