"Nisbett hits top ten"

By Nadia Arandjelovic

Singer Chelsea Amber Nisbett, the daughter of Bermudian Thomas WL Nisbett and the granddaughter of Anglican Church Canon Thomas Nisbett, has reached new heights in her music career after her latest release reached the top ten in the Canadian Christian charts.

Her song ‘Beautiful Mess of A Girl’ has this week reached number seven on Canada’s More Radio & Music Chart.

On the singer’s Twitter account she said she was feeling “excited, surprised and thankful” about her newfound success.

Her grandfather Cannon Nisbett said he was also proud of the special milestone.

He first learned Ms Nisbett was interested in singing in her childhood years when she participated in her church choir.

“She wasn’t brought up in Bermuda, she was born and raised in Canada so I didn’t get to see her singing first hand as a child, but I heard she used to sing quite a lot in her church solos and on the guitar,” he said.

Canon Nisbett said she seemed to be “100 percent serious” about her music career and said her mind was set on reaching new audiences with her heart felt songs.

“She still travels a lot in her music and I know that she goes to the United States fairly often and she does quite a lot of work there.

“I hope she will continue with it and I think she is making the success that she hoped she would.”

He said his granddaughter last visited the Island when his wife, Winifred, died two years ago.

Miss Nisbett’s parents, Thomas and Colleen Carroll-Nisbett, live in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The Halifax based artist settled on the stage name “Chelsea Amber”, as she believes her middle name, Amber, represents who she is as a person and artist.

The amber stone is made of tree resin and its imperfections make it beautiful and unique, she said on her website.

In 2010, Ms Nisbett released her first full length album entitled ‘Anchored Roots’. The title track received airplay on Christian radio stations across Canada and the album was recognised with six music awards and four additional nominations.

She is currently working on her brand new album entitled ‘Introducing Chelsea Amber’, which she hopes will give a true representation of where she is headed with her music.
