The Tunnels + Teen Sensation, Pictures of Braille
Emo’s Jr., 10pm, $6/$8, all ages

Austin's psych-rock revival can more or less be divided into two
camps: shoegazers steeped in Echoplexes and druggy detachment, and
garage-rock revivalists shambling blissfully toward another Summer Of Love.
Despite boasting shoegaze scene queen Rachel Goldstar on bass, The Tunnels
fall squarely in the latter category with
two-chord trips recalling the hypnotic, primitive drones of The Velvet
Underground. Fellow retro-hounds The Teen Sensations pick up the pace a
bit, breaking out a Byrds-ian 12-string for their jangly, AM-radio
power-pop. Theres really no explanation for what New York's Pictures in
Braille is doing on this otherwise blessed-out bill: The groupe's
driving melodicism has much more in common with the dark, dynamic
earnestness of bygone bands like Jawbox and Seaweed, which could make for a
jarring buzzkill. Also playing: Ripe. - The Onion

The Tunnels, Teen Sensations
Husband and wife Carlos Jackson and Rachel Goldstar are songwriting machines. From the space rock of Experimental Aircraft and All in the Golden Afternoon comes the next logical step: the Tunnels' garage psychedelia, not quite trippy but definitely high. The local fivepiece previews its upcoming debut LP alongside fellow local lovers of the 1960s the Teen Sensations. Quirkier locals Confuzatron and New York alt-rockers Pictures in Braille open. - Austin Chronicle

Teen Sensations
Starting in 1999, DJ Sue's monthly Fuzz Club gatherings became Austin's premiere destination for 1960s trash-rock vinyl paired with fellow travelers like the Ugly Beats and Sons of Hercules. Fresh from a stint in L.A., Sue is back to resurrect Fuzz Club every second Saturday at Scoot Inn. January's inaugural installment features high Western jangle from Teen Sensations and guest DJ Scott Gardner from KOOP's Stronger Than Dirt. - Austin Chronicle

From The Onion, 08 Jan 2009:

FUZZ CLUB w/DJ SUE, THE TEEN SENSATIONS, DJ STRONGER THAN DIRT

Once an Austin nightlife staple, Fuzz Club was a throwback to the sort of "Hullaballoo"-era twisting and shouting of British Invasion rave-ups and Stax bangers that briefly ruled the "Quadrophenia"-obsessed local mod scene of the early 00's (right before electro-clash became the new flavor of the month). Overseen by the impeccably groomed, frequently bouffanted DJ Sue - who had located to Los Angeles - the much beloved record hop triumphantly returns to its former stomping grounds to kick off its new twice-monthly [sic] rotation at Scoot Inn with this show featuring fellow retro-hounds The Teen Sensations, whose AM-radio power pop gets an extra dose of jangle from a Byrds-ian 12-string, and KOOP 'Stronger Than Dirt' host Scott Gardner. - The Onion
