"Robert K. Oermann "Hook Em" review"

CHELSEA RAE/Hook ‘Em

Writer: Chelsea Rae; Producer: Josh Mendez; Publisher: none listed; JKMusicwerks

—Imaginatively produced, with a steady drumbeat, fishing-line effects and a cool, stuttering repeated guitar riff. Her vocal just has enough moxie to sell this feisty “attitude” number. (Robert K. Oermann)

Bio

Since before she was born into this world music has been influencing Chelsea Rae. Her mother was in attendence at a Judds concert when she was already pregnant with her and as the story goes over the years, it has been said that she could feel her kicking along to the rhythm of the concert on that night.

Since then Chelsea has continued to hold on tight to those early influences of country music's legends like the Judds and Wynonna and modern country stars like Taylor Swift, but has also seen her tastes blossom into other genres as she has grown and she can now state pop/rock influences like Kelly Clarkson and Colbie Caillat on her resume as well.

Spending her childhood in the Northwest state of Oregon alongside the Santiam River (pronounced Sanni-Am) has also played a tremendous influence on who Chelsea has become as an adult. Some seemed surprised when they find out that Oregon is chalked full of the standard, stereotypical, country living and lifestyle, but rest assured it is and Chelsea Rae was influenced by all of it. She loves the outdoor lifestyle, fishing for Salmon and Steelhead, riding dirt bikes, 4-wheeling, staring at trucks and imagining what they would like if they were lifted, bonfires, and plenty more. However, it was music that has always stuck with her in her heart and soul.

She has been focused on writing and performing songs since she was only 13-years old and in 2008, an 18-year old Chelsea Rae made the big move to Nashville to pursue her dreams of writing and performing her music leaving home behind for the first time in her life. She jumped right in and began to work on her craft in-between a busy schedule that has now seen her become a student at the prestigious Belmont University. Over the past year living in Nashville has brought her many opportunities and she has written and co-written with a variety of writers and artists finding her own, unique sound.

She recently headed to the studio to record her 5-song, debut EP Justice in the winter of 2009 in Hendersonville, TN with Josh Mendez manning the production board. Utilizing Josh’s production and musicianship expertise helped Chelsea further develop her sound as is evident on her debut single “Hook Em.”

Chelsea Rae says of working with Mendez, “He's very easy to work with and knows how to keep it light while at the same time he continued to push and challenge me in the studio with my vocals and melodies to become better then I thought I could.”

Keeping strong with her faith Chelsea recognizes that she is a child of God first and foremost and understands that he is the reason she is here and has accomplished what she has so far as well as what she will in the future. Her goals with her music come from that strong faith background as she simply states "I want to reach people through my music and inspire them to reach higher because there is a plan for all of us and we just have to go get it. Aside from music seeing people live out their dreams is my biggest passion and I plan to incorporate that into my career. It's not about the awards and the record sales, but rather it's about saving the world one person at a time. I'm not going to worry so much about genres, I'm just going to play music that comes from the heart and I'll see where that takes me instead."
