Bio

thank you for listening.

hi. my name is chelsea z. the first time i played for anyone... i made my brother stand in the other room (he's sweet and patient like that). now, i'll sing to anyone who wants to listen. i still feel awkward sometimes, but you probably wouldn't notice if i didn't make sure to tell you, usually during a story that is completely unrelated to anyone else's reality. maybe about elephants.

but i can tell you that i can silence a room... i've seen it.

oh those happy-sounding sad songs! they just get stuck in your head... i catch my roommate singing them and he likes Radiohead. i am lyrically self-destructive and i'll admit that i like to sing about my forays into the darkest corners of my mind, places usually only visited by the artists i admire most like Tegan and Sara, Missy Higgins, Kaki King, and Bruce Springsteen.

i've traveled a bit... all by my lonesome (well, save for my guitar)... to Canada in 2006 and Australia in 2007, i played a lot, i learned a lot, and i sing about ALL of it. since then i've played tons of shows and benefits like The Women Leaders of Wisconsin Conference and NEW's Positive Voice Reunion, headlining and opening for acts such as Adrianne, Steph Taylor and the State of, Peter Mulvey, Emily White, and Flame Shark at venues like Cranky Pat's in Neenah, WI, Paradigm in Sheboygan, WI, The Redline Tap in Chicago, IL, ZuZu Cafe in Madison, WI, and at the New Moon Cafe in Oshkosh, WI.

the band and i won Harmony Café’s 2008 statewide Battle of the Bands and earned a spot headlining the North-East Wisconsin Music Festival “Festin’ in the Fall." those lovely boys are helping me record a debut album this winter... so i can take it on tour this spring...

...people seem to like the music, smile. here's what people have said:

"...a few angsty acoustic guitar ridden folk rock ballads about airports, Australia, love/hate... and confusion... a few interjections about wool sweaters... empathy engulfed the crowd... and she wins us over again. " Kate Krause - Owner, Paradigm

"Chelsea creates great melodies and upbeat songs... she has great command of her guitar." - Aaron Baer - Owner, New Moon Cafe

"Your songs are swirling with emotion and passion and an overall goodness." - Flame Shark

"...a one-woman musical dynamo... self-deprecating humor intertwined with compelling personal revelations tugged at our heartstrings and commanded the full attention of the audience." - Jane Spietz - Concert Watch, Scene Newspaper
