Bio

Chenoa Alamu, born and raised in Memphis, TN, is a natural fit for the music industry. Trained in classical music, she has chosen to pursue her calling in Christian music. It is her desire to bring hope and healing to the hearts of many. At the age of two, Chenoa attended her first classical music concert given by Japanese violin students of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. This sparked her interest in music and she was enrolled in the Suzuki Violin Program a year later.

Demonstrating her love and enthusiasm for music, Chenoa continued to develop her natural ability and trained gift in violin and vocal studies throughout her childhood and teenage years. She attended the Overton High School of Performing Arts, summer music camps such as Aspen Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Camp, Sewanee Music Center, and the Governor’s School of Performing Arts. She has achieved both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Violin Performance from the esteemed Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers during these earlier and formal years of study were Yuko Honda, Pak-Chung Cheng, Katherine Wolfe, Kurt Sassmannshaus, Dorothy Delay, and Dr. Won-Bin Yim.

Upon graduation, she moved to Nashville, TN and was presented many performing opportunities in the Christian music circuits. She played violin and sang backup vocals for top artists such as Michael Card, Sara Groves, Phil Keaggy, Darwin Hobbs, Donnie McClurkin, and CeCe Winans. Her exposure was broadened when she accompanied Nicole C. Mullen at a Billy Graham Crusade.

As Miss Black Cincinnati 1994, she appeared on the televised talent show “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” held in the famous Apollo Theater in New York. Chenoa has played with the National Symphony of Washington, DC, where concerts were held at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

As a wife and mother, Chenoa is now stepping out of the shadows and into the spotlight as a solo Christian artist. She was proud to release her first instrumental CD “Center of My Joy” in the fall of 2006. While currently completing her doctorate studies in Violin Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa, she is busy in the studio assembling her solo debut. Chenoa is noted as a successful and outstanding performer, achieving many honors and awards throughout her musical life. “Chenoa” is soon to become a household name.
